• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I'm not a quick enough whistler to keep up with the melody of these shredding acrobatics...if indeed there is a melody hiding in there in the first place.

Master musicians, just not my thing. Each to their own.

So you don't need scalloping and ultra thin necks to shred like that?
Who would've thought...

Agree with some, this incredibly fast playing, while technically extremely impressive, is almost unlistenable to me. With that said, YJM is without question incredibly talented and appeals to a significant group of players and listeners who do appreciate this style and level of dexterity. I still enjoyed the clip. Live and let live.

I just watched the clip from Mr. Yngwie doing Red House . For the life of me I don't get the hate on him for of all things shredding . I found the clip to be nice and melodic and appreciated his solo and laugh away- but I did hear some Hendrix in his playing and also heard clearly his vibrato . Yes , while it's not like B.B. King vibrato it's still there . I enjoyed the clip and while it's not my cup of herbal tea it is still enjoyable and very listenable .

That's my point. I'm not a huge Yngvie fan but if "modern blooze man x" was playing instead of him the same people dissing the guy would want to know what kind of cables he uses.

Also, that YJM Marshall is (IMHO) one of the best amps Marshall has ever made from any year.

I'm not a huge fan either - TBH the shred thing never really did much for me. I'll give him credit for being that good at it for so long - and wearing the same leather pants and frilly shirt for that long too. o_O
I also don't want to rank on him, but I did see a video he did, where he's doing his thing, then says, "OK, I'm going to play some blues for you now," and he does the exact same thing, but in a pentatonic minor scale versus whatever he was using before.
The other part that ranks me is, somewhere mid 90s or so, I saw an interview with him and he said, "I know I'm great, I just don't get why the kids don't like me anymore."

I love how people put down his playing. I'm sure he's doing the same to you!

I'm sure nobody puts down his playing. He's a wizard concerning his technique. But for me it's always melody before technique. So his playing is cold and soulless to me. But I'm too old to need to understand this.

I think that people who can shred like that are talented and have very impressive skills, but musically it just doesn't appeal to me at all. Back in the 80's I read gushing reviews about YM in guitar magazines and I couldn't wait to go out and buy Rising Force to listen to this incredible player. I bought the album, listened to the first side , took it off the turntable, put it back in the sleeve, and its been there ever since. Shredding is just not my bag, baby.

It has the same fascination as watching a circus act for a short while, but can't be described as music🙉

I watched the blues clip of the Yngster. There was some Hendrix-esque stuff in there. But blues playing has often been described as similar to speaking, telling a story, with all the pauses and emphatic punctuation . If that’s the case here, he never shuts up! 😂
