• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

bastard for 175’
I’ve been hankering after a 175 for some time now.. but since seeing Joe Pass’ custom order es175 .. this is what I want .. here’s a thread I created on the guitar.. that no one gave a toss about lol..
I’d loved to get a made to measure replica of the guitar.. but not sure if Gibson would thin the body to Joe spec.. 🤔

.. it’d be awesome if Gibson issued this guitar..

There are some tasty items to be racked for sure I’m drawn to the Eko.. very nice 👍 but the biggest draw is your outbound gear.. wow.. SSL, API, DBX.. and the clone compression.. all very decent and stuff I use (inboard-pro tools) .. do you use a SSL desk? Love the trident 500s too.. I bet they sound delicious.. I managed to buy the last set of Lindell Audio preamp/eq/comp 500 set in the UK. Which I use on all guitar/bass recordings.

Thanks. I use an API, The Box, which is out getting some mods right now. I bought the Trident EQs because they were cheap. So far, I think they sound great on drum buss and electric guitars.

For SSL, I've been using their plug-ins since the early 00s when Duende was released. The channel strip and bus comp are so good I don't have any desire to get the hardware.I have a couple of those SSL control surfaces - the EQ one and the one with a single fader but I just hooked them up a few weeks ago (had them at least a year) and haven't put them through the paces yet.

The plug-ins that come with ProTools are excellent - especially the 7-band eq and the ProLimiter. Since I've gone Carbon, I've been using many of the PT plug-ins because they run DSP, and it's fun to rediscover how great they are. I like the Tape Suite, Tel-Ray, and Mod Delay III as well. Some of these are old, but get the job done.

Part of the reason I went with The Box and then more API preamps is because I'm starting to believe tracking through the same eqs/pres is the way to go vs. the mix and match, and the summing/center section sounds so good it's mind-blowing. I'm using my hardware mostly on the way in and committing like I did back in the tape days is just a much faster way of working.

All what you’ve said.. in my view and practice is the way to go.. using multiple preamps for different instruments only results in more work (eq) later.. where as having a base match.. requires less work (eq) later.. as far as my work ethic dictates.. some guys love doing it the other way as they love to tinker (engineer more) but faster results is my goal as you concentrate on the music more.

I agree with your sentiment re: PT plugins as they do what they’re supposed to do.. I also have been using the SSL plugins for years.. Inc the awesome buss compressor.. I did get their new own version and eq rack plugin a while back .. which I have to say is equally as good (if not a tad better).. and along side that using the waves API eq’s gets the job done.. and I’ve found not updating my Mac or plugins saves on so much grief.. my system is still running a 2012 Mac with 2015 osx lol.. and committing to tracks is much better musically and for the system to handle.. much like the old 8 track days lol.

Anyway… “racks.. yeah git sum” lol 😜
