• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
  • WE ARE MOVING THE LES PAUL FORUM TO A NEW HOSTING PROVIDER OVER THE NEXT 5-10 DAYS. We will experience downtime during that period. Please be patient and have confidence that we will return! Many thanks, Mike Slubowski, Admin

So today, I picked this old box up from the guy I have fixed all my stuff. It sounded good before but boy howdy does it sound good now!

I don't know much about this model, but he told me it's a clean one and had never been changed except for a tiny resistor in there.

The original speaker was replaced with a CTS, but he found me an 8-ohm JBL, which I guess is a different voice coil or something from the 16-ohm.

Anyways, it's good to have it back!

I'll get this in there tomorrow. I'm expecting it to sound better but it already sounds pretty good to me!

I am infatuated with the subtleties of Brown Fenders. If you told young corpse his main Map would be a Fender with a 15" speaker (mine is a center volume Pro).
But you have to have a good tech go thru them periodically- they are tanks.
I need a tweed amp- only have played thru a Champ or something....
But getting them back is just wonderful.

I like them as well. I've had a lot of tweeds over the years, but aside from a really old (olde?) Deluxe from 1949, they've all moved on. In the late 80s through the early part of the 1990s I used a Bassman or Tremolux through a 15" speaker, which was really odd at the time but worked for me.

This one isn't the most popular model - but it was the most expensive at the time. According to an article I read in VG, this was $479, the Twin was $429, and the Pro was $289. That would put it at about 5k today.

I'm not a guitar nerd, but it is historic because it's the first model with the knobs on the front and the tolex. Which is kind of cool.

I can see why some people would prefer a Pro, but headroom is the name of the game for me and that's where this one shines.

One came up for sale here a few years ago, I looked at it from afar, (it was down country and too far away to want to make the trip) didn't pull the trigger in the end.
My amp man said that these have a very unique and great sounding Vibrato.........congrats.

So I finally got the JBL in this morning, and then I got it in its new home until the touring season starts. I'm excited to use it live. It's got a lot of headroom and good articulation. The JBL def breaks up slower than the CTS, but to me that's a good thing. YMMV.

I like to keep the amp I use the most right under my table so I can mic it up easy. Sometimes I use the Ox Box, which is nice but doesn't have a 15" speaker in it. Anyways, it will get played more when I'm writing and hanging out and working on tunes.

I think it looks pretty cool as well!!1 The only thing was it's a little too tall to be on a dolly so I stuck it on some 2x4s. I tried 2x6s but I think it was messing with the crystal lattice because the chirp wasn't there and it was a little fizzy. For now this will work but I'm probably going to try a 2x6 and 2x4 to see what happens once I find some NOS boards.

Please ignore the double rugs. I wanted to make sure I like the new one before throwing away the old one.

My neighbor gave me a clean pair of old JBL's like that when he moved. I need to find a couple of 1x15" cabs for them.

Try and find a Jensen and get it reconed. There's an old fella in Minneapolis that used to work for Hammond that did them. They are sweet with those Browns. I will try and get his name.

I appreciate it, but this amp was the first one Fender put the JBL in, so I tracked down the correct 8-ohm D130F for it. So far, I'm loving the headroom!

I put a nice set of matched GE 6L6GC's and it gave mine some new umpf- but that happened concurrently with a go-thru so that helped I am sure.
Well enjoy.

Was it Bill Brown at BB Organ?
