• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Why don’t you get thumb bleeders on USA SG 61 RI 🤔

Thumb bleeders costs are minimal so why don’t you get them on a USA 61 RI but you do on a USA 60 RI LP!? 🤔

Anyway.. added some to my SG..

Well, Gibson has to have differentiation between the two levels of guitars. Its the little things. Look at that scratch btw! Was it in a knife fight?
Yes.. but both the SG and LP are in the “standard” range.. and yet the LP came with thumb bleeders ! Shirley (don’t call me Shirley) .. they should add bleeders to all “standard” ranges.

The scratch came about when the bass player in a metal covers band said my top e string was flat during my solo, so I went to hit him with the guitar.. but he blocked it with his wrist while wearing a studded wrist band .. he then swiftly “windmilled” his bass around his body.. and his headstock upper cut me and I went flying into the drummers new 7 peice Tama kit and broke his 15” Tom Tom who subsequently preceded to cry shouting that his parents only just bought him the kit.. he became really angry.. and then punched me in the balls.. which really hurt.. the singer tried to break up the whole thing but he managed to trip over my guitar lead and pulled the double stack over onto himself and broke 3 ribs.

The band broke up after this session.

The scratch serves as a reminder of that fateful day.. to keep my guitar in tune.

Oh wait..
my bad.. that was a different guitar ..! 🤔

.. that’s a reflection on the whammy stick.. soz.

Bonjour.

This is something you might want to ask Mat, if you really need to get to the bottom of it!

I wouldn’t want to waste his time tbh.. plus a set was cheap enough to get..
Now hold on there Marc. You need to complain. Get this off your chest so you can sleep at night! What kind of Gibson player are you anyway?

Well given the current barrage he’s getting .. I don’t think I’d even get a look in tbh..
..it would be funny though and in keeping with the trend.. to go full tilt at him because of thumb bleeders lol..

“damn you Gibson, damn you to hell !!!!”
*shakes fist*

•edit I had only previously skimmed over the current Matt from Gibson thread but just read it all.. Jeeze man.. some members really need to get a grip and stop embarrassing the LPF in front of a rep from Gibson! 🤦‍♂️ obviously he’s gonna feed this all back to Gibson of which they will be laughing at how ridiculous the LPF is.. which is completely unfair towards all other decent/brand loyal LPF members..
I’m glad Mike had to weigh in to rebalance the conversation but it is somewhat still embarrassing, as Mike’s comments were akin to a parent coming home from work and reprimanding the unruly teenagers.. with a threat of grounding them.. what a shit show..

My hot take from the thread is @matkoehler comment - “I’m not gonna yak your yum”.. which I never knew was a phrase but apparently it is.. and I’m gonna use it!

So you waste ours instead? Just kidding, I’ve had to buy several sets and wondered the same thing.

Seriously, though, I wouldn't look at it that way or approach it thusly. Not everything needs to be drowned with insouciance ... earnest inquiry is within the realm of possible and appreciated.

The forum was regarded for the wealth of information including this level of detail and minutia, and it would act as a resource to give great feedback to boutique builders and others striving for authenticity and accuracy. Search "AVH", ha-ha. There were many vendors that grew from the goings on, and in turn, supported the site.

It kept Gibson especially the Custom Shop on its toes or better stated, gave them a destination to aim for. No reason that can't still be the case. Mat goes deep enough but having him come forward with rationale has been enlightening. As usual with business, hard choices are made due to timing, supply, scale, availability or regulatory obstacles. Mostly people attribute them to nefarious intent with the "keep refining incrementally so they keep repurchasing" trope and I don't discount that as a minor factor, I'd wager the journey through HJ-era landmines and other difficulties are the more likely cause, and weigh more in the equation.

So, putting every well-intentioned query to Mat is going to help frame his thinking going forward, and so long as its coming from a good place, I think he'd appreciate it.

The more he gets well-posed questions of matters of great import or small niggles, he'll keep coming back more and longer, I suspect. Which in turn will stimulate forum participation.

Anyway, that's my perspective on putting things to Mat/Gibson.

And agree to the other thrust of your post, obviously!

Hmmm 🤔 then why not now?
Is it to justify the 61 custom price.. As they come with thumb’ers

Ps love the white paint.. I’ve been looking at white sg’s.. kinda want one..
I got this one right after the raid at Gibson when they were blowing out all the stock. These guitars used to be listed at $2700 but they dropped them down to about $1600 and then $1200 on the last day and they went like hotcakes. Those prices were for the red ones. I paid 1600 for this one and it was the last ‘61 one I could find anywhere.
