Does anyone on here besides myself have any Music Man Amps they are my favorite for my Les Paul and Johnny Winter still has one too

I bought my HD-130 Reverb from the original owner back around 1980, so it's been with me almost 30 years. It still has the original Sylvania 6CA7 big bottle tubes in it. MusicMan amps don't get the credit they deserve, but the upside to that is that you can get one cheap. I do have to admit that I like my 1971 Marshall Super Lead much better.

The early one's with the preamp tube and EL-34's rock. And yes I've seen Johnny is his later years with 2 combo's and never plays the same lick.

I've played one or two that I liked and always thought the MM's would take off with the vintage market. Go figure.

I considered buying one, but my (at the time) amp tech refused to work on them. No idea why.

Anybody have a gut shot of one?

I love that site mine too was from the original owner who acctaully used it for bass for almost 20 years then sold it to me


I just use it for guitar but it cranks I had the original tubes in it but i had to change them out


I put some GT EL34s in but its a bit tweeked

I've been listening to a guy called Chris Cain and he uses a Musicman amp and gets a killer tone with his 335. I had one many years ago, I think it had 2 x 10 speakers and a phase effect on it.

I had a 130 head for a little while, but I liked my Twin better. When I got my '52 RI Tele, there was a 65 watt 2-10 in the store. That amp with my Tele was one of the classic guitar tones right there at my fingers. Real nice. I couldn't afford both so I let the MM pass. About ten years ago I got a 130 with a 15" JBL MI speaker. Another great amp for clean tone. I sold it to a friend who had a Gretsch Country Gent and that was another killer combination.

If you play clean, or use boxes for grit, they are great amps.

Music Man 210 was my first "real" amp. The clean tone, reverb and trem was great. Later I learned why overdrive pedals did not work so well with this amp: the 210 lacked a tube preamp! This tuned out to be a major drawback for me, so I sold it and purchased a silverface Fender Super Reverb. I believe there is a handfull of early MM amps that contain a single pre amp tube. The rest are solid state pre amps.

Still have one, (2-10/65 W/preamp tube) although I'm still thinking about selling it.(covet a D'lite) Have had a few and the preamp tube models are the way to go. The odd thing about MM's is that they really do sound good but still have a two dimensional quality to their sound. There seems to be a lack of "space" and "depth" to their sound. Know what I mean? YMMV

Back in the day (early 80s) there was a local blues guitarist with a sanded/stipped 335 and a 210 65w MM combo. Boy did i covert his tone! So rarely get to see one in these parts and when I do I don't have the cash in my pocket - it's just timing, one day.

I owned an HD-130 Reverb stack (head, 2x12 cab) for years -- finally traded it off because it was too damn heavy. Mine had the preamp tube and EL34s. I used it for a bass amp (with a Hartke 410XL cab) for a long time and it was a killer.

I traded it in at the local music store and it was gone by the next morning. There's maybe four MM amps in the area: my old one, a 410 combo, a 212 combo and a 130 bass head. Good amps.

The preamp tube model will distort very nicely, and with the pre turned down it's clean and loud. If it weighed about 1/3 what it did, I'd still own one.

I have been converted by a friend who is a big time MM collector.He moved away but I got to play thru several of his RD50s.These are killer channel switching amps.The normal channel is OK and cops most of the Fender vibe.The distortion channel delivers the goods by the truckload.I picked up a RD10 on FleaBay and later picked up a RD12 that had belonged to my collector friend.The RD 10 sounds pretty cool but the RD12 is just KILLER!It is an export model that has been retubed with Groove Tubes 6L6s,a new 12AX7,and had the spkr replaced.This is my go to amp for practice and small gigs(the only kinda gigs I do now)It has more volume than I will ever really need and just sings with a TS9 kicked in for the leads.My 335 and my Heritage H140 both sound great with these amps.The only new amps that sound as good or better are the Rivera Club sized models.I had a 2 12 65 for a short while that I sold to friend that sounded great as well.These amps had a 1/2 power switch that let you plug straight in to the amp and sound great.The only thing I want now is a MM 1x12 cabinet to hook up to the RD12 to really move some air!
