Actually, they are IC's The very early ones have a round can, whereas the slightly later ones have a square one. The round IC is LM 307H and the later one is LM 1458.

The round ones are apparently getting rare and the square ones less so. I can give you an email address to an amp tech friend if you have any more questions. I had 2 65 watt versions of the amp you have, so these are the amps I am talking about. Let me know if you want more info.

good, didn't know it was related to only the 65watt but thanks very much for tha info.

As far as it only being related to 65 watters, I don't know so you may want to check it out regarding 130 watters as well. I bought my 65 when they first came out - way back when. I learned about this issue when mine crapped out for no apparent reason. Radar (my tech buddy) diagnosed it in about 2 seconds as he knew of this problem. I later bought another one at Flynn Guitars in Evanston, IL for $225 including a Star road case. It was also dead and "voila", he fixed it in about 5 minutes. At the time, he said these particular ic's were getting rare and recommended buying some extras as backups. I sold the MM's a few years ago so I haven't kept up on any issues. Just thought I'd offer up what I know.

But if you want a "tough as nails" all around amp that will never let you down (except in extremely rare circumstances), go for a Musicman. :peace2

thank for the info f69 ...when/if the time comes that this amp needs servicing I'll have a tech check out the ic's ..meanwhile, I'm really enjoying it :salude ...meanwhile, I'd like to find some original logo/badges for it but i'm sure that's a slim chance.

I had a 210HD 130 and a 112 65 I bought from Ebay in 2000 while trying to find an inexpensive Fender-like amp that would have to take the hits of road life. I used the 210HD 130 for a just about a full year. Liked it OK but I never quite loved it, always just plain harsh compared to a Fender. Once you get a few pedals in front they are better, I think. I guess this is why the prices are still cheap relative to a good BF Fender reverb. They just don't sound anywhere near as musical IMO. Still, a pretty good gigging amp when you look at the price.... cheaper than a RI BF Fender for comparable amp but I personally like the RI BF Fenders better if I had to choose.

A used Music Man 2-10 was my first amp. I walked into a new and used guitar store wanting a combo with reverb and tremelo. Life would have been better if I started with a Fender!

The LM1458 is an old device but there are tons of pin compatible replacements.

LM307 is a 741-style opamp that is obsolete. Its main features over the 741 are lower offsets and lower noise at high impedances. Any 741-style opamp with jfet or bifet inputs such as the LF351 should do the job.

And while round pinout packages are no longer made, you can get adapters from round pinout to DIP.

That's what I was talking about, so it was advisable to lay in a few as spares, at least according to my tech.

The MM's I had also didn't quite live up to the musicality and open sound that a good Fender has, which is why I finally let them go. However, i have heard many players coax good tones out of them, so I can't say they are incapable of tasty tones. As far as being bulletproof, more than once did I spill a beer into my amp. The flash was thrilling, but a once over with a hair dryer cured everything. They are built like tanks.

Also, DO NOT try to clean the knobs if they have to get funky. They are silk screened and the paint WILL rub off when cleaning. The knobs are NOT the same as Fender's and replacement knobs are not available.

These things I have learned from the school of life. :laugh2:

Big Music Man fan here. have a 210-65 & 112-65, both with the 12AX7. Highly underrated in recent years. Expensive back in the day. Used by a lot of high profile players.

Nice to see a MM love fest going on here. After 35 years (bought mine new) my HD130R needed a little going over. I thought it might be the tubes, and thank God it wasn't. Never really fiddled with them before, and come to find out I have a purt near perfect set of Telefunken EL34's in it. I could probably eBay them & get another amp just like it for what they're bringing these days. Mine also has the 12ax7 phase inverter. Anyhow, the tech called last night and she's ready to go after having a few caps replaced. He said it's all biased and sounds nice. Can't wait to plug it in & see what I've been missing.

I grabbed a couple of vintage JBL e120's last month & have been mulling over cab options. Maybe I've had the right cab under my nose all along. We'll see...

I think Eminence were the standard brand and EVM's were the upgrades. The musicmanamps.com forum has some information around this.

Gary- not to change the subject, but I was going to email you about possibly doing some work on my '66 Champ (I think I read on here that you fix amps and are not far away from me), but it says you've chosen not to receive emails. Mind if I send you a note?
