• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Should I stay or should I go? (0 7437 content)

I would leave it as is. Now myself. I have a 57 TV Model with an incredibly ugly neck repair. A part of me kinda wants to keep it as is but I really should get it touched

Why do some people hate vintage guitars?

I went down the rabbit hole of vintage around 2017 - up to then the idea of owning a real 50s Gibson or Fender was an impossible dream. I totally get what you mean when you write about things being in your head or not. I have played some custom shops that kinda had the feeling but most of the...

    First 50s Les Paul?

50s Les Pauls Here are the 50/ Les Paul’s I had last year. All gone now :( The 52 had been converted to 56 specs. The 55 Custom had some kind of headstock repair and neck refin. Great guitars but I became a Fender convert so swapped them for 50s Fenders

Les Paul Juniors. Is everyone insane?!

Indeed crazy..... A few days I bought a 57 TV (neck repair) for more than I thought I would ever pay - which will mean at least that I will have had all the different LPs from the 50s - a 52 Goldtop, 55 Jr, 56 Special and now a 57 TV Model - I'm assuming I'll never get to have a PAF Standard or...

Here’s something you rarely see show up on a gig these days

With just the amount of aging and green copper that I love

    Necks on 1952-1960 Les Pauls

Had a 56 special - very full neck not quite baseball but getting there. Had a 55 Custom that was pretty standard. Played a few other early Customs that were the same. A 55 Jr had what felt like a narrower nut width but a little chunky profile behind it. Quite comfortable and very much like a...

    Advice on a '53

Oh ok then. That means you start around 30k+ instead of 22k So refin and repair brings you down to maybe 15? The pickups then another 1 to 2k and that get you to a max price that might take a while to achieve. I think 10-11k is a really good price for both of you.

    Advice on a '53

Ok we’re talkings about a trapeze Goldtop? Headstock repair would bring it down from around 20-22k to about 13-14 max. the refin then hurts you quite a bit and would bring it down to 10k max. the rewound pickup again hurts the value. I would say around 8-9k is a fair US value. - in Europe you...

My 52 (convert or to convert 2)

I just traded this one for a 59 Esquire - don't hate me ! Its a 52 that was converted to 56 specs - I got a Mojoaxe bridge and tailpiece but the new owner is getting the more authentic parts to make it a 56.

    54-58 Les Paul Junior

I had a 55 Jr (with the bridge close to the pickup) and currently have a 56 Special - the 55 Jr came with a compensated bridge so can't say how well the stock was - it was fine. But the Special is incredibly well intonated and is to be honest more true and clear than most of my other guitars

How much do repro tuners affect value of a 1956 Les Paul Special?

Hi all - first off this isn't about playability or which are the "better tuners" - I just received a guitar that was sold as having original tuners and they aren't - no brass posts, DELUXE instead of single line Kluson Deluxe and no PATENT stamp underneath etc etc. I'm more than annoyed because...

Beauty of The Black Beauty - The "Alnico" Custom thread

This is the second one I checked out - played wonderfully - really blown away. Supposedly a refinished 1954 - it's got the speed knobs at least. But what's bugging me is those last inlays - they don't seem to be the same size - kinda like the reissues.... what do you all think?
