Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
I've never seen an explanation for this so I thought I'd ask here.
Most original bursts I've seen have top hat knobs but there are a few out there with reflector knobs. Did they ship with both or did players swap them out?
I have two R8's which I adore, (a 2011 VOS and a 2014) but when I opened the control cavities I found modern wiring in both guitars. I changed them immediately but it's odd that these guitars which pride themselves on accuracy wouldn't use period correct wiring. It requires no new parts or extra...
My first reissue!

I've owned a Les Paul Standard since 2002 and picked up an ES Les Paul a couple of years ago. I was pretty happy with both until I came across this one:

It's an ES Les Paul Standard without f...
When I put Seymour Duncan Whole Lotta Humbuckers in my Les Paul Standard I wired them to push pull pots to coil tap them. Worked out great but I found I wasn't using the neck coil tap very often.
Today I rewired the neck pickup to a phase switch. It works great but now the bridge coil tap...

Here's an early Fender 40 watt Twinolux. It's in great condition with only a few scuffs from gigging but no tears on the tweed. The attached tremolo footswitch and the switchable attenuator are here. Absolutely nothing wrong with it but after 3 years it's time to admit I'm not a...
I've owned a Twinolux for the past three years that I know is a great amp but for some reason I've never bonded with it. I've used it for bedroom, band practice and gigs with Fenders and Gibsons. I love the tweed sound (especially from Keef) but when I play through it it feels hard, boomy and...
My 2001 Les Paul standard is my no. 1 but I never liked the stock 490's in it. I couldn't decide what to change them for.
Then I discovered P-Rails. Basically, they are the best thing I could have possibly done to my guitar. Even in series, the sound has opened up. I can hear the wood and my...
I've been doing a lot of selling and I'm ready for a new combo.
I want to get rid of my Marshal Valvestate 8080 for a full tube combo. Since i have the Marshall sound well covered by my JCM 900 I'm thinking of going with a Vox. I'll play it mostly at home, some recording and the occasional bar...
I know there are some effects that go better in front of the amp (wah, overdrive) and some better in the FX loop (chorus, delay).
My question is for those that use both. How do you run your pedalboards? Do you have splitters? Mutiple lines?
My pedalboard consists of a wah, whammy, phaser and...
I was playing my 50 Watt JCM 900 head Saturday when I started to smell something. Like melted plastic. The head was pretty hot but I couldn't see any damamge, even with the backplate off. It crackles when I turn it on and off too.
I've had it for 2 years so I figure it's time to change the...
I'm looking to go all tube and I'm eyeing the Marshall JCM 900. But I'm finding the combos are a lot cheaper than the head, even before you add a cabinet.
So, since I can't decide I'm wondering which you play through and why? What are the advantages of each for you?
Thanks in advance!
I've always wanted a good pitch shifter in my rig so naturally I've looked to the Whammy.
Lately I've been getting into more unique sounds and creating textures a la Radiohead, the Edge and Tom Morello. It seems to fit my band's music well.
But at $200 a pop I haven't convinced myself to just...
I've never used one before. If I broke a string I just plowed through. But now that I have two good guitars (a Tele and an LP) I wonder if I should haul them both when I play. I'd rather rely on the LP all night but better safe than sorry?
What do you do?
The new band I joined has a much different sound than I'm used to. Although my LP and Marshall work great I find myself using lots of delay and some tremelo in the studio on their existing songs. So I'll need to add a good delay pedal to my gear.
I'm looking long and hard at the deluxe memory...
