• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

The Lovetone Zendrive OD pedal does that grit thing nicely.

What is your favorite album of all time?

I love a lot of the albums you all have mentioned, and Black Crowes SHMC is a close second, but if I have to pick one it's The Joshua Tree for me. I am solidly a child of those '80s, and everything hovering around this album (plus the production hand of Daniel Lanois, who was coming off of the...

How much of the Firebird tone is the pickups?

I thought the pickups were different, so this is helpful. As for mdubya's 3 Firebirds, I'd believe that the neck-through with laminated wood will sound different than an all mahogany SG or LP with a glued neck, and I expect that a Korina glued neck guitar would sound different, but I am not sure...

DiMarzio PAF Pro in the neck of a LP-type mahogany guitar?

In theory this could work well for what you want, but you'd have to try it to know. Or, this forum has a helpful search function that you might want to use for more information/opinions.

How much of the Firebird tone is the pickups?

I was under the impression that Firebird pickups are built differently than a mini humbuckers, but I generally follow what you’re saying.

Heritage core H-150 vs Eastman Eastman SB59/v ..... anyone do a shootout ?

They're both great guitars, but I give Heritage the edge for being closer to original spec. I have found their build quality to be generally good with some glaringly bad spots on bindings and nut slotting. Also the wood is all over the map on weight and figure in the Standard series. They seem...

How much of the Firebird tone is the pickups?

I’m going to try a set of Firebird pickups in an SG or LP Special if I can find a good one on Craigslist. I’m guessing that 75% or more of the Firebird sound is the pickups, I’ll let you know how it works out.

How much of the Firebird tone is the pickups?

Does your humbucker firebird sound the same as the one with firebird pickups?

How much of the Firebird tone is the pickups?

Perhaps, but his tone is often fuzzed out so is that the best/only representation?

How much of the Firebird tone is the pickups?

As in, if I put a set of Firebird pickups in an SG or LP, how close would it get to sounding like a Firebird? Or do I need the “full bird” for the magic?
