• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

    Election Question (Party base?)

I just read this and have to ask whether people believe this is true? I can see a political analyst saying the Republican core is conservative, or the Democrat core is liberal, but to say this???? :bigal The South Carolina result will show who has the most support within the party's core...

    Economic Stimulus Package

Since I'm getting screwed by the cap, hell I don't even come close to the phase out, I'm wondering about the fine print of the 1/3rd aimed at small business. I keep hearing it provides a 50% write off for capital equipment expenses, then the talking heads say that means "for buying plants." WTF...

    1974x

I was reading this month's Guitar Magazine and they did a review of the Marshall 1974x amp. I wanted one of these in the past, but stayed away because of all the negative reviews related to the transformers. The reviewer in Guitar Magazine mentioned the transformer issue, but reported that...

    Need a recording recommedation

I couldn't find anything using the search function, so does anyone have a recommendation for software and an interface for recording guitar on a computer? Preferably less than $500 total. I have a pretty powerful computer and a pod xt (not sure if that can be used or not). I'm not looking for...

    Considering a Marshall

I really like the sound and look of the 1974x, but I'm a little more than concerned about what I'm reading on various gear sites about people having to send them back for warranty work because of transformer issues. Do the Bluesbreaker reissues have the same reliability issues as the 1974x? :hmm

Tips for learning to read music

Anyone have any tips for learning to read music? I'm not sure how helpful knowing how to read music is now that we have tabs, but it seems like a good thing to know. I figure the first step is to memorize the notes on the scale so they are instantly identified and seeing them as a letter and...

    Amp questions

I just bought my first Acoustic-Electric guitar, and don't know anything about acoustic amps. Will playing an Acoustic-Electric through my drri damage the amp? If so, why? The guy at gc said I needed to consider buying a special acoustic cable if I wanted to play through an amp. Any truth to...

    POD update packet

I was just playing around with the 18 watt POD update packet that just came out. Does anyone know how close that is to the actual 1974x sound? None of our local stores, even GC, has an 18 watt example I can try out, so I'm doing what I can to see if I whether it's a sound for me. Thanks. :hippy

Looking to add some old standards to my mix

Help me come up with a few selections. Example: Ever since Back to the Future I thought Chuck Berry's Johnny B. Goode (Eb, Bb, F) would be fun to play live. :dude:

    rhythm/treble three-way switch on a les paul

Can someone please explain when you use the rhythm/treble three-way switch on a les paul. I mean, what music sounds better with just the front, or just the back pickup? Just playing around I noticed that Hotel California sounds better in the treble mode, while Dust in the Wind sounds better in...
