• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

The processing is quite different- most modern wire is done with continuous casting vs mechanical drawing. I honestly don't know about purity- but I know folks that know.
Stay tuned.

Found this guy on yt - tests most of the main ones everyone is talking about here.

I have to say throback sle-101’s certainly stand out especially when you’re listening for that certain Pat characteristic - I’m not sure why duaneflowers keeps bashing him, but let’s not even go there !
Great to see one person testing different pickups through the same rig

That’s me, by the way. Happy that someone found me independently. Thanks for listening

I jumped on the ThroBak band wagon because of the Les Paul Forum . I use the MXV-SLE-101 Plus with A5 magnets , potted . I love them so much that they are in all 10 of my Gibson Les Paul's . I also love ThroBak Tele pickups as well . ThroBak is the BEST PERIOD

To be honest, everybody makes great stuff. It just depends what works best in a specific guitar and for your style, amp etc.

It’s like Ferrari and Lamborghini, just a matter of preference.

They’re lovely- the Rewinds have a metallic chirp low-mids that’s quite unique, and the SLE’s are juicy and compress easily in the best sense.

My personal preference is actually for the Mojo (Not Mojotone) PAF’s outta the U.K.- they have the perfect balance of compression and brightness, and sound the closest to real PAF’s that I’ve heard. Obviously there was no one PAF sound, but there were recurring qualities, and the Mojo’s seem to capture them best in my rig. Right behind are the Stephen’s Design, Throbaks, Sigil’s, Rewind’s, etc.

Yeah...I'm not into "this is the best"...my ears tell me there are many options to do different things. Sometimes I'll be wanting more drive and oomph that the real PAFs can deliver...so I go to something else. Despite being quite hot, my PAFs do not drive as hard as modern equivs with similar readings. Or, more proerly described, they keep their clarity and don't want to mush up so much.

I guess you have never played a humbucker loaded guitar with ThroBak's ?
