Hello guys,

Could I by any p90 LP and replace it with mini-hums? I don't want the more expensive and fat necks of the Deluxe. Thanks for any input.

Should be able to but some P90 cavities aren't deep enough. Someone with direct knowledge will chime in.

Thanks anyways, appreciate it. Ya, it seems that P90s are a hit/miss with swapping mini-hum pickups.

If it helps I have a set of mini humbuckers out of a guitar and can measure the depth of them. I also have a p90 loaded LP Special tribute I can check the depth of.

My plan is to buy a LP 60's tribute studio with p90's. I like slim necks and i want mini humbuckers, so I figured this would be this best way to go.

I had a Deviser made (Momose) Sonix Custom Craft Guitars gold top originally equipped with P-90s, that came to me with mini 'buckers and I sold it to someone that put P-90s back in it. Crazy .......

**oops, I see the 'Attach Files' feature isn't functioning here, again :(**

So here’s what I’ve concluded from measuring the pickups I have and the cavity of my LP Special Tribute P90.

The P90s in the guitar are 21.5mm deep. The screws dictate the depth entire depth as they protrude from the plastic cover on the top and the mounting plate underneath.

I measured the cavity down to the metal mounting plate, not the wood at the bottom. It’s not quite flat but it’s around 21-22mm deep.

Now the good news is my mini humbucker is only 18.75mm deep (again the screws really dictate that). I test fitted it in the neck cavity and there is plenty of depth (even considering you’d set them lower than P90s typically.

So sample size of one and not exactly the same guitar but I could definitely fit mini hums in an LP Special Tribute.

Thank you so much. Now I need to buy some Mini's, seems like Lollar's are pretty good compared to Gibson.

I've got two sets of Lollar Imperials and they're lovely pickups so bodes well. I'm UK-based and have a set of Creamery, which are very nice as you can customise the spec (A5 magnets in mine), and I'm also a big fan of Monty's Pickups.

I forgot to mention in the previous thread that because the limiting factor on depth is the polepiece screws, as a last resort you could always just take the ends off them with a Dremel (or similar) to give you more space!

I did this and a set of Seymour mini humbuckers fitted straight in with no issiues.
