• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Yeah right, seems there’s always someone saying that! Epiphone makes fine guitars, no doubt about that. However, they are not Gibson! That can be good or bad depending on which side of the fence you are on. I’ll go with Gibson every time!
And I'll go with quality. I don't care about the name on the headstock as long as the guitar delivers.

I have a friend that is a collector /musician. He has hundreds of guitars, including a couple if The Epi Les Pauls with US pickups and electronics. According to him, they're better than his US LPs
Well, no Asian or other non Gibson Gibson here. I am much too traditional/snob to go that route.

However, I have a really good old friend who is a great player and has way more guitars than I do.

He also has an Epi Les Paul and swears it is the best Les Paul he owns.

What ever works, play what YOU like! Nothing wrong with Epiphones.

First I believe we have Gibson employee on this Forum answering questions in particular thread please correct me if Im wrong .

OP guitar is a forgery to shyster buyers could even be illegal with trademark laws in the USA .

Gibson has had some involvement with this forum could we show some consideration lock this thread take the thread down ?

Gear page would be a good outlet for such posting .

Once again show some consideration on The Les Paul Forum for the US company making the one & only Les Paul I know of !

AA, you make some good points, and I should clarify that there was no 'dis-respect' intended here. More of 'warning'. But, as others have pointed out, this situation has existed for decades, so nothing new and I probably should have never started the thread. I guess I did so because I was really somewhat shocked about this particular guitar. For the record, my 'collection' of guitars is almost entirely 'Gibson' (all genuine). So, if anything shows my true feelings about the Gibson company, that would be it. I don't recall the member that posted that I should probably be able to remember that this 'warning' has been around for nearly 40 years now, but I recall 40 years ago hearing the same warnings about Toyota, Honda, and Datsun (Nissan). Took 'em 30 years, but they finally drove GM and Chrysler to bankruptcy, and Ford would have gone there too had it not been for their overseas operations. But, regardless of that fact, I just want to say again that I purchased this guitar because the ad showed a new SKB Pro case....which I needed....than I did for the guitar. The whole deal cost me $150, so with that covering the cost of the case, I figured the guitar was a 'gimmie' and I could just dump it (into the wood chipper). It was only after I discovered the Fralin PAFs in it that I got really interested in seeing just how good the thing actually was. The Fret problems might have been another kiss of death for it were it not for my ability to have a very good friend and exceptional Guitar Tech do a re-fret on it for me on a 'now I owe you one' basis. After that, and after evaluating every other thing about the guitar, I saw it as a genuine threat to Gibson. Add to that my experience in having just bought the new Gibson that ended up having to go back to the factory for what one might describe as 'totally unacceptable workmanship and quality problems', and I think you can understand my motive here. Even though my 'new' Gibson did have constructional issues that go all the way to the CNC set-up, the QC guy should have never let the guitar out of the factory. Anyway.... not trying to pitch another bitch on that problem!! Just trying to make sure that NO ONE here thinks I'm actually 'bashing' Gibson. More just pointing out that a business can be great and do 99.9% of everything right, and still fail because of the 0.1% they do wrong. Gibson is NOT infallible, and just having a loyal owner group here does not make them impervious to the onslaughts the market can offer. The fate of my Chibson is perhaps as unknown as the fate of Gibson, but this guitar will probably just lay around in my back room as some kind of conversation piece. And, I may 'strum' it once in a while, but it's NOT going to leave here for a long time to come. And, when it does, it may be for the chipper...... or firewood...... or perhaps a donation to some kid. In the mean time I just hope Gibson is aware of ALL the issues they have, and doing a proper job of correcting them. Otherwise, the 40 year-ago warning may just come to fruition! I'm done! A 'Gibson' moderator can take down the thread now!! I'm an SG guy anyway!

Guitars made of compressed sawdust and tin are the latest thing. They have a real cha-ching when you play them...
Oh well I just wouldn't buy one. Japanese craftsman are another story.

Just kidding.

Correct 1,000,000 % As a side note manners, and etiquette, and civility , along with conventional wisdom, since the Pandemic began have really dropped down and fallen so low and it clearly shows on the various Forums (no disrespect directed at anyone ) and threads . Where trolls have become almost common in disrupting dialogues between folks trying to learn and gain more insights and knowledge on various topics . This seems to have become more the norm along with rudeness and vitriol directed at anyone disagreeing with there consensus as they are correct on everything and it is Gospel and written in stone and heavens forbid anyone that disagrees with them which then causes wicked arguments , which is not what this is about !

Big Al, you clearly missed the point!

To all the 'Die-Hard' Gibson fans out there...... including any Gibson employees...... the message here may be the same old thing that someone else mentioned has been said for years. That message IS: If you continue to let the ship leak, it's gonna go down. Just a matter of when!

Fix the leaks!! Get the quality back into production, and the 'integrity' back into quality control. The competition is increasing. If all you 'defenders of the flag' wanna keep saying stupid stuff to support the product, GREAT! But when some company buys Gibson for $0.10 on a dollar, and that company happens to be Asian, what are you going to do then? GET REAL!! Clearly the concept of 'Process Improvement' is over the heads of some of you! But, it says you CONSTANTLY monitor what you're doing, including what the competition is doing, and you make changes as necessary to insure ongoing success. That does NOT mean you stick your head in the sand and say that just because someone warned you about a problem 20 years ago that you can dismiss that same possibility today, particularly if the circumstances have become worse, as is the case here. Foreign competition is getting better and the folks at Gibson are becoming more lax in their approach to error-free production and post-production quality control.

Bullshit. Who do you think you're fooling with this ignorant, self serving, dumbassery?? A few newbies with no experience or the group who need to justify their wannabe cheap ass poor quality knockoffs with ridiculous claims of quality? This is getting tiresome. WTF!!

The problem is that you bought an illegal guitar that ripped off an American design, and that you don't have the skill or ear to tell the difference between a Gibson and a cheap ass copy! There are many more differences than just a shoddy fret job on a Chibson, and a real Gibson. And worse yet, you post this crap on a Gibson Les Paul forum! You want to play a Chinese Gibson? At least buy from a company that paid for the rights to use the design!

That's the point!!! You don't get the fact that I DO have the skills, the ear, and the experience to know the 'differences'......and my point is that the foreign instruments are getting better and the Gibson products are going the other way. You want to ignore the facts, fine! I've been doing this for over 50 years, and closer to 60. Just about every manufacturer out there will purchase an example of it's competition's products in order to determine some kind of comparative basis for what they're making. I don't own Gibson, but I have every right to buy what I want, and if I see some 'cheap' guitar that captures my interest, I have every right to buy it.

So, go a head, bury your head in the sand, wave the flag with your feet, and DON'T heed the words of caution. I'll bet your drive a Toyota!

I'm out!!!
