Sadly this one is dead-convincing but total scam.
His acct is locked on Venmo- just a matter whether I am getting all or part of my money back. I will leave the pics up for ref and appreciate the good wishes.

I had one that was my main axe for many years. Foolishly sold it around 2001. Enjoy yours for many years in good health! Uggh...hadn't read past first post or so...didn't realize you got scammed. Damn, that sucks. Well better luck with whatever comes next.

What a bummer. Hope it goes well as it can.

I've owned three 70s Customs. two late ones with maple necks. Never really bonded with them. Had a White '74 most recently. Same problem. That's the one I should have kept, though. Same as late '69. By then the top carve was not so curvy. Still a good neck tenon.

So there was an ad posted and had a photo to show no HS break and I was able to make out the SN. The seller texted me a different but plausible number. I asked for an explanation and now he’s gone dark.

Looks like you need to find a trustworthy dealer. Was this ad for a LP Custom too?

Heavy sigh. Craigslist. But I have been thorough in requesting specific pictures. It appears the first scenario- and this one had a guitar or access to a library of detailed pictures.
You know for years I took deals off line to avoid charges- I am likely the only one who ever did that. No phone calls- PayPal friends and family and once the money arrived the other party shipped the goods with little in the way of policing. I thought I was being extra careful. Lots of very specific pictures sent by the seller in a timely manner.
In the first case I paid a deposit and the balance as G&S so with protections.
This had been exhausting. Looking for a deal. No more.

But Craigslist nowadays..
If seller is a pro scammer, he prolly do own the guitar, and "sells" it several times..
