Hi there am looking on eBay for a Les Paul studio. Have found one at £600 will probably offer 500-550. Not an expert on guitars so am just looking to see if this is worth the money. It is a 1996 model and has a repaired headstock. It is quite heavily used and has been gigged alot, however apart from the headstock repair looks to be all cosmetic. Just wondering if this is worth the buy and if anyone else has a 1996 LP studio and if they are any good as I have heard that they are very heavy (9lbs 13oz).
(Hoping that link works as that is the picture the seller sent me)

Is it headstock break or a neck break? Some folks consider both as severe and take 50% off the average price.

Sight unseen it's rather difficult to offer a reasoned opinion, but given what you've said I'd pass on it.

see if this works = 1st timer here. images from net search

First 'Imgur' photo is a scarf joint from an Epiphone, *NOT* a Gibson. So not a Gibson USA Les Paul Studio and not in price range you are representing...

Second 'ckcustom' pic, probably not the same guitar ... PLUS looks like it could be 2 different repair areas (or a lower neck scarf joint) to boot... Not sure what this is given the area, but looks like it would be a stable repair [if not a scarf], re-graft of a new headstock area onto a neck.

If the seller is conflating these pics as the same guitar, I advise walk away.

This is the second thread re this guitar and still no pics :/ From your various descriptions I'd still say walk away. If you want more info/better opinions then you really do need at least to post some pictures.

Here is my current situation. My luthier said just gluing may be strong enough. He may have to put in some other kind of support. He did mention carbon fiber. I've 'heard' that the repair can be as strong if not stronger as the original. Like Hamerfan said, it could affect the value by 50%. I personally would pass on a repaired Studio for that much. I'd want to play it first also. AS for me, my Deluxe is very special, and I would never sell it. So even if there a scar, as long as it plays like it used too, I'll be happy.

My 2004 Standard came with a repaired break at the junction between headstock and neck and it was marked down heavily at Guitar Center when I bought it in ~2006. It was most definitely worth the savings, and the repair left very little cosmetic evidence.
