JUST BOUGHT A SOLDANO SLO PLUS PEDAL

If I could afford it, I'd own a Soldano Slo amp or one of it's iterations. After seeing/listening to YouTube videos of the SLO Plus pedal vs the Soldano Slo amp and how close they sound alike, I was determined to buy the pedal. I'm impressed with how the pedal is articulate, sweet tone and the overdrive is smooth.

Glad you are enjoying it!

I enjoy the first iteration SLO pedal, but haven't seen that the Plus is a must-have upgrade, and haven't really seen a comparsion SLO vs SLO-Plus review.

The Plus is a 2 channel which is nearly identical to the SLO amp. You can switch in the normal channel clean with a little break up and have Lead channel dialed in for the amount of overdrive you prefer, which is the way I'll be using it.

I played my Soldano Slo Plus pedal briefly and it sounds glorious. I dialed the normal channel for a clean tone and the overdrive channel for the dirt. The pedal definitely adds that Soldano amp effect. Clearer notes, more sustain and the tones are fantastic.

What are you putting it into?

Truth be told, I haven't spent a whole lot of time with the pedal. I didn't have time to bypass all my pedalboard goodies. I am currently plugged into a compressor, a Wampler Belle, then into the Soldano pedal, then into my HX Stomp (all the presets dialed to a clean tone for the use of an external overdrive) then into my Fargen ODS/Blackface modded 69 Fender Bandmaster Reverb. No worries, I'll report back after I have time and I'll bypass everything. The amp is nearly cranked up full volume and attenuated at the HX Stomp. Still, the improvements in the tones are profoundly evident.

Not to worry, enjoy yourself and your experimentation!

The key thing I am interested in is: what does the new SLO Clean side give me in the 2-channel Plus, as the Lead side is already what the first pedal was about...?

I imagine the Plus would be useful as a 2 channel plugged into a very 'direct' situation, for sure. But if I am already going into a clean amp, say a Blackface, then it seems the original 1-channel SLO Lead would suffice. Unless there's some other magic SLO clean gives... and of course, that can vary depending on what it's going into.

BTW I still have my Tech 21 60W Power Engine, which is very 'pure', for any direct inputs i.e. Amp-In-A-Box pedals or modelers, which would give a proper representation of uncolored SLO Clean side; however, not sure I want to upgrade from the original SLO pedal to the SLO Plus unless there's some SLO Clean 'magic' that sets it apart from needs already met elsewhere.

Glad to have you reporting out whenever... in the meantime... Have fun with it!

Yes sir. The clean channel can absolutely be dialed in beautiful clean all the way up to a really nice medium overdrive. The overdrive channel is as potent as a Soldano amp. I'm relatively certain that whatever amp you run this pedal through will improve the tone. The pedal functions like the Slo amp and the tone infuses into any amp you plug it into. There is a YouTube video where an influencer is playing the pedal through several amps and the Soldano flavor remains constant.

can the Soldano SLO plus be used as a “preamp” into an amps effects return?

I’m also wondering how it sounds into a Deluxe or BrownFace Fender!

I’m intrigued because I just bought a Neural DSP SLO plug in that sounds totally Ace!
The high gain kills, but that crunch setting is my favorite and probably how I’d use it live, with gain pedals.
Made me dream of a 30watt SLO amp head, and then here we have this timely thread of the pedal!

My live setup is a Deluxe clone with a BrownFace mod on the Normal channel, with gain coming from pedals, including a Marshall Guv’nor reissue pedal, that is Killer btw… anyway adding an SLO pedal to the board has me super intrigued all of a sudden!! Then I’d have hot rod Marshall, and SLO tones at foot!

I believe you would do well to have the Soldano Slo Plus pedal in your rig.
