Hello. Hope I’m in the correct area. I’ve had this 50’s LP Jr since around 1983. Bought it from the music store I worked at during HS/ College. Slab Mahogany. Badass Bridge. Pots look original. Shaller tuners. Obviously finish stripped. Serial # “fell off” during refin I guess. P90 replaced with I believe a DiMarzio. Actually sounds great and has an unbelievably awesome neck. My favorite player.

My question- it has Mother-of-Pearl script logo. I have never seen this on a Jr. If anyone can give me insight I would appreciate it. Trying to nail down Year if possible.
Would not let me post pics.

Definitely doesn't make any sense. Would need to see a photo. Did you try shrinking your photos a bit with windows paint?

Juniors never had script pearl logos. If your describing the "GIBSON" logo, someone installed it later as it came with a gold decal originally. Is your JR a single cut or double cut??

It is not proper serial stamp for starters. I put a picture below of what a 2001 Custom Shop serial would look like with the last number blanked out for privacy. That said, unless someone had a Historic Jr done with some spec changes it would have had a serial number like Gibson does on its Historic guitars. I put a link below for one of them. Also, if it was a non Historic guitar would have had a pressed in serial number. Before buying a guitar ask in forums like this first or do some looing on the internet at actual Gibson guitars. Your guitar is an Asian copy most likely made in China.

In addition to serial number issue...
  • Upper bout shape distorted
  • Pickguard shape wrong
  • Knob spacing way off
  • Knobs wrong
  • Hardware in general looks like cheap Asian copies... especially lightning bridge adjustment screws... also look at stud posts they have deformed slots so cheap metal
  • burst spray pattern looks off
  • Headstock shape and open book look off

hey guys,

Hello Vander,

Thank you for sending those additional photos. Unfortunately, this would appear to be a counterfeit Gibson guitar. The truss rod cavity is not consistent with authentic Gibson models. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Email from Gibson... I've traded back my stuff (vox amp and a Kritz stratocaster), the seller will search for the previous owner he traded it from.
I certainly learned a lot. big thanks you all!

hello Guys,

The story goes on..
The previous owner contacted the owner before that... and he can give the copy back, trading it for a nice amp.
so far so good...

My guitar-buddy brought me his LP, let me play it, love on first sight!
2011 Standard, all paperwork included.. no doubt about this one :)

love at first sight, desert burst, the real thing.
wanted to share this one with you all.

thanks again for all the help,
grtz BrightSide

Those are nice, enjoy!

Still need a plank with P-90s eventually. Nothing wrong with single pickup Juniors, but I think the recent Original Collection Specials, especially the updated TV Yellow versus Banana Yellow ones, are the best quality for value guitar at the moment, and there will be plenty of used ones on the market in a little while, well documented, and the won't be scare or hard to ID, so keep that in mind.

Good luck.
