Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
I owned that guitar. It, and it's next consecutive serial number, had that crazy mahogany.
Just before Dave died, he told me he had enough from that plank to build a 3rd one, and offered to make one for me. Then he died.
Ponty Gonzales with his Futura...before he left it to sizzle in the back window of his car.

I never heard of Ironing Board Sam before...but at 1:24...his guitar player is playing 50's LP Burst with a B5 Bigsby on it.

8-2857 shipped to Arthur's Music in Indianapolis on 5/29/58.
One of the first batch out the door.
Held by Amos Arthur.
He looks in a state of shock.
"$347.50...for THIS??"
This picture blew my mind.
Finding a picture from the late 50's of a Les Paul Burst in action, when it was new, is very rare. (10 years ago, there was a B&W YT video of a new Burst in use. Long gone off YT now, I can't remember the singer's name).
This is a shot of Billy Adams & The...
Yeah...JJ was Les' guest last night at the Iridium. I was at the corner of the stage, right next to Lou Pallo.
She said "I'm a little out of my element" and seemed nervous.
Les said "Joan has had som hit records. I saw her signature guitar the other day and it's great". (seems as if the JJ...

Look at this one!
Even in B&W, this thing JUMPS!
Who is playing it??
It's been around a bit since then, repainted twice, and back to original now.
I know Gary US Bonds and he doesn't remember it...Lonnie Mack's Band backed him up.

30th St Guitars in NYC has a Sunburst 24 FRET Gibson Les Paul Custom.
Cherry Red Burst over very nice flames. No pickguard.
Ebony board / Block Inlays.
It doesn't look "right" until you realise the neck pickup is closer to the bridge and it has the extra frets.
I don't remember the price.
They have his very Iced Tea burst in a case downstairs.
No Silkscreen on the head. Hardware was SO perfectly dulled. I wished I could just lift off the selector ring for 2 seconds and see what is underneath. A little dance in a few spots on the top, but DAMN...this thing had the most mojo of...
Gibson 345 trap inlays have always been split.
In watching "Back to the Future" the other day, I noticed that his Bigsby-equipped ES-345 had a FULL pearl inlay at the 12th fret!
He actually does play some guitar, and did a great job "faking" the lines in the movie. I suspect the guitar was...
This shot is of Uriah Heep, most likely early to mid 70's. I'm sure this is an original (probably just 16 years old or so) '58 Korina V.
I guess the string-through didn't do it for him. AGHHH!!! At least they left the V plate on!
One for the collectors if it's still out there...
I always like seeing old shots of guys playing then-new guitars. I can't ever remember seeing anyone holding an Explorer.
This is a shot of Gary U.S. Bonds in 1960, so the guitar was no more than 2 years old. It looks as if he has the covers off!!
The suit doesn't go with the guitar...
