8-2857 shipped to Arthur's Music in Indianapolis on 5/29/58.
One of the first batch out the door.
Held by Amos Arthur.
He looks in a state of shock.
"$347.50...for THIS??"

Yeah -- he's probably thinking, "How do I get Gibson to take this thing back!?!"

I think a lot of music stores that got V's and Explorers kind of resigned themselves to using the guitars in their windows as a sort of flagship symbol of the 'new modern Gibson line'. You know, kind of saying, 'it's the future, the space age and Gibson is at the forefront of futuristic guitars.' kind of like that giant mechanical Swiss Army knife that you see wherever they sell Wenger products. make sense?

I was told by a collector that he knows of 2 Explorers that came out of this store.
Evidently they were a little more "hip" than we think. ;-)

All the tweed amps from Champ/Harvard to Bassman. Really nice looking two tone Gibson GA amps too. Cool to see them new.
