Great to see these old music store pictures. Like someone noted, a bit of a time machine. I recall seeing an old photo of a music store when I was passing through a small town in Southern Texas (can't recall the name of the town). Anyway, the music store had posted this photo which was of that same store, circa 1963 or 1964...it showed a display window full of custom color Firebird I, III, V and VII models...if enough of these old photos existed or could be cobbled together it'd make a great coffee table book!

Dude appears to be gettin' all up in they 'thang with the Mr. Rogers sweater. No matter. You could be wearing full scuba gear while holding that guitar and still look cool. And I am in cohoots with the others here that are diggin' on all the new/old amplificadore's. That's just a shit cool photograph. Much obliged for posting it.

8-2857 shipped to Arthur's Music in Indianapolis on 5/29/58.
One of the first batch out the door.
Held by Amos Arthur.
He looks in a state of shock.

I was told by a collector that he knows of 2 Explorers that came out of this store.
Evidently they were a little more "hip" than we think. ;-)

Well I know for sure that one of a few Explorers that came from Arthur's Music was a used one that someone had brought in to trade in the early 70's. My friend the late Tom Everett worked there and the owner let Tom buy it. It is a very rare and I mean very rare Korina Explorer dated to the yr 1959. It has an original late fifties brown case but has the nickle hardware like the one issued in the early 60s. It is fairly heavy not no 7.5 or 8 lb like some of the Historic reissues. Anyway back to the Explorers. There was another Store in Indianapolis IRC named Sachs Bros or Sax Bros that also sold Gibson guitars. Gibson sold or dumped alot of stuff they must of had trouble selling. Alot of older guys remember going there in the early 60's and seeing Flying Vs and other stuff upstairs still wrapped in tissue paper. The Korina Explorer I owned back in the mid 80's ser # 8 4543 came from the Sachs. It had the black case with yellow lining similar to a firebird case. There was at least 4 or 5 original korina Explorers that came out of the Indy area. Thats alot considering the small number of them that was made. I dont know how many V's came to Indy but I'm sure just as many. I heard a story about an original Explorer that was fished out of the trash that came from Indiana as well. The neck was broken but someone had the sense to take it out to save it.

And, for many years, I owned an early '64 Fender Deluxe Reverb that had an Arthur's Music, Indianapolis decal on the upper back panel!

I was 8 years of age at that point in time and I really can appreciate that photo as I'm very nostalgic .

Back then folks were not concerned what was going to be collectable down the road it just fell into place and what sounded and felt good to you ears you just wanted .

Coooool photo :wow

Doesn't that black guard on the V make a very rare guitar even more rare? How many had the black guard?
