Just what the title says, an early CBS fiesta strat, and a very very cool guitar!

This guitar belongs to a friend of mine and he left with me for a few days, so I thought I'd take some pictures and show it off. I took shots of it in all different kinds of light, but none of them truly show the color... anyway, hope you enjoy them!

Are these Strats tonewise different than early 60s ones?

I love these 66-68 headstocks. :dude:

Mine weren't. They sure felt different, though. Bigger, heavier, & more blocky.

Fiesta Red is probably my favorite custom color! I followed the guy around the Orlando Guitar Show that was selling a '62. I think Drew Berlin might have bought it. Vintage Guitar Mag had pic's of it at Drew's booth in the SoCal show. It's funny, but the dealers only wanted to give the guy $15k for the guitar. Guess now is a really good time to buy.

that is my favourite of the Fender reds and that is a very nice guitar.
interesting in some of your photos the red looks quite milky and on the verge of orange and in others quite a bold red.

Sweet pics. Thanks for posting! Love the plastic on that one. What's the neck profile like?

The neck is more narrow than any of the modern Fenders I'm used to, and it's thinner than my big fat tele neck, but not as thin as those 80s vintage reissues. It's worth noting that it's the most heavily rolled neck I've ever played, and that coupled with the well worn finish make it super comfortable to play.

I'll try to get some pics of the rolled edges this afternoon

Fiesta Red in person, looks like what you describe... usually NOT a bold red. The color is very accurate in the OP's photos. I've also seen FR Strats with no primer or undercoating like many Fender custom colors usually have. ...just the red paint n wood underneath. Looks like that may be the case on this one as well?

j45 yes, the red is right on top of the Fullerplast

I've caught myself actually just sitting and looking at this guitar much more than any other guitar I have ever been in the room with. It really is quite striking in person

I started playing during the CBS era, and was drawn to the then-less-common vintage, smaller headstocks. Lately, though, I've really taken a shine to those big headstocks, particularly in the pre-bullet, gold-logo period.

This one's a stunner.
Giving it back must be tough!
