1969 SG Custom Refret?

Hey guys,

I’m thinking of pulling the trigger on a ‘69 sg custom that’s had a refret.

I inquired about the refret and there is a possibility that the neck may have been rebound in the process. Is that normal or will it devalue the guitar?

The seller blacklighted the neck and it seems original however, when he black lights the binding it’s not glowing green like everywhere else on the guitar.

Does binding not blacklight very well?

Any thoughts??

Thanks

Binding repairs if done with the correct materials are not a huge deal and often done without detection by reputable people. If done correctly the nibs and patina are retained and the edges are rolled to feel worn. Not a huge deal imho as long as done correctly.

may have been re-bound.may have had a meticulous refret saving the nibs. I've done it without changing binding.

What do I think ?
if this is an original WHITE late 60s sg custom …I’m pretty dang jealous! ..priced right , any binding issue would disappear from my mind …those frets look like a healthy size and way better than the fretless wonders

I think it's 6 of one....
A refret without binding loses the nibs, and replaced binding is....replaced binding, but you get nibs.
There's no point in even thinking about it unless the workmanship is poor.

Just out of interest…if it was rebound during the refret, would the whole neck have been oversprayed? What is the usual procedure here?

Cheers

I’m not a repair guy but if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, cheap ..buy it ( with a 48hr approval )

well, not white. I haven't been following the market. Seems high for an SG, but what do I know?

Nut width? Three pickup, gold? If you like it, get it. If new binding there will be overspray on neck.

I’m sure it has a 1“ 9or10/16th nut ..but if it’s like the C-shaped neck on my ‘69 sg standard ..it gets real Beefy from around the 5th fret on up …can you post a couple pix of this custom ? ..also, was my US dollar amount above wrong ?
