Hi Fellas... New to the forum. I have a 1981 LP Standard ( Pot codes 1980/ Serial # stamped 1981 ). It seems to be like most 81 Standards except it has a two piece top with a nice subtle flame to it at certain angles. A pair of Shaws, 300K Vol, 100 K tone pots
In the Tobacco Sunburst. Maple neck, embossed Gibson tuners, and chrome parts. I have yet to see another in this 3 year span ( 79 through 81) as sometime in 82 they went to the mahogany necks.

Anyone seen another two piece top ?

Thanks KoP... It was a gift from a dear friend which makes it even more special. Sounds great too and just a hair over 10lbs which for the era... isn't that bad.

Beautiful gift! I too received a guitar from a friend who recently passed. It's not as collectible as yours, it's just a 1991 Fender acoustic made in Taiwan, but it plays and sounds amazing. It was one of my friend's older brother's guitars, and he wanted me to have it because he could no longer play.

My friend just passed on 12/28. He had slipped and fallen during the ice storm here in Oregon, hit his head, and was taken off life support 5 days later on the 28th due to brain hemorrhaging.

KoP that's awful. I'm so sorry. I'm a well ripened guy (70) I've lost a lot of friends and I will say... I really never lost them. They are always with me. Always ....
