• THIS IS THE 25th ANNIVERSARY YEAR FOR THE LES PAUL FORUM! PLEASE CELEBRATE WITH US AND SUPPORT US WITH A DONATION TO KEEP US GOING! We've made a large financial investment to convert the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and recently moved to a new hosting platform. We also have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
  • WE HAVE MOVED THE LES PAUL FORUM TO A NEW HOSTING PROVIDER! Let us know how it is going! Many thanks, Mike Slubowski, Admin
  • Please support our Les Paul Forum Sponsors with your business - Gary's Classic Guitars, Wildwood Guitars, Chicago Music Exchange, Reverb.com, Throbak.com and True Vintage Guitar. From personal experience doing business with all of them, they are first class organizations. Thank you!

No joke.
Welding fins on to a 56 Chevy doesn't make it a 57.
You also can’t put some things back once done. It has original finish on it now. Getting new finish to match the old to plug the pickup routes, ABR and stop tail is really basically impossible requiring a refinish so even from your “orthodox” vintage stand point the maximum possible amount of originality available is to leave it as it is.

That is a completely different question as to if it should have been done but as it sits? Worse outcome trying to put it back.

Or if one is not caught up so much on the looks they could pull the PAF's, replace them with a pair of HB sized P90's, or better yet an HB sized P90 and HB sized Staple or Dynasonic clone, and sell the PAF's for a pretty tidy sum $.
