Yeah....something ain't right with the baseplates and the pole screws. And the PAF sticker is not very convincing.Well those PAFs aren’t PAFs for starters..

In my opinion, a re-top with period correct parts is worth only what the parts are worth - even if it plays and sounds great. (And the donor husk is not worth much at all in my opinion.)
Do keep us up-to-date on your quest.
If you do get the conversion, post some pictures in the Vintage 1952-1960 Les Paul pub where you are sure to get a much larger audience. You might even consider reposting your original inquiry there.

Making a new neck or scavenging one from another guitar.What does a reneck involve exactly?
It can be OK. I grabbed a fretboard off a ‘61 LP that had a completely trashed body and used it to restore another ‘61 that only needed a board making that one whole and still completely vintage.
