Hi,

I'm having a lot of trouble with the intonation on my 64 Gibson SG jr. This has never been an issue on my 59 single cut LP junior, however on the SG, it is nearly unplayable.

I've changed the original nut on the guitar as the grooves were to wide, and it was buzzing all over the place, The nut I used might not be the best replacement but for now it does the job (I really wanted a 6/6 nylon one, but had a hard time finding one).

The problem however (although I could be wrong) seems to come from the original wraparound compensated tail piece, which seems to be quite worn and not the best tailpiece to begin with.

I've been looking at the Faber compensated wraparound tailpieces, but decided to ask you guys for some opinions.

Any advice.

regards

I have a 64 Jr also and have used Faber and MojoAxe bridges. If you must have spot-on intonation you can get bridges like the PigTail wrap with moving saddles. For original look MojoAxe is the best, and Dan has fixed the wound G saddle position to suit plan G. Faber is OK, but doesn't have the look. I'd go MojoAxe.

Hi,

thanks for the reply. Do not need perfect intonation at all, just want the guitar to be usable (it isn't as it stands).

The problem with the mid 60s SGs is that the bridge isn't angled either, it's parallel to the nut, so just want to make sure that any of these bridges will solve the problem.

I don't have a problem with the look not being vintage accurate either.

Will look into the mojoaxe.

Thanks

I have a '63 SG Jr. with a MojoAxe bridge on it. It looks great and intonates very well.

Did you guys go with the cwt tailpiece or the lightning bolt one? 64 SGs have even studs, but I'd much prefer to have an offset bridge on it, but I guess intonation will be off in that case, right?

The lightning bolt is the proper replacement for the straight (non-offset) bridge.

I used to have this 1962 LPSG Junior which was all over the place to begin with but I found the grub screws were done so it wasn't adjusting. Changed them and it was great.:)
