AmPro II Strat—Under-Appreciated?

A month or so ago, I made an offer on Reverb for an AmPro II Dark Night Strat and was shocked that it was accepted. I’m a lefty in rural Tennessee and never get a chance to play guitars before I get them , so I kept my fingers crossed. I love this Strat. It’s the sweetest sounding Strat of the six I’ve owned. Perfect for clean tones, but it does well with dirt. I’ve seen so much criticism of the AmPro line, but I’ve got three—this Strat, a JB, and a PB. I couldn’t be happier. They fit my needs for the music I write and record. I know Fender can’t label them as “Made in America,” but I really don’t care. As long as axes sound and feel great, I don’t care about pedigree.

Seven months in, and that Dark Night Strat (the BatStrat) has become my fave ever. The feel and sound are wonderful. As my original post said, it’s a sweet sounding Strat. If I need a mean monster of a Strat, I’d use my other, which sports the Gilmour pickups (pickups that don’t make me sound like Gilmour—no pickups can do that).

Glad to hear you are still enjoying it.

I like that Dark Night finish, although I am not in the market... maybe used in the future... I already have an AmPro-era Strat and Tele, however they are Mod Shop special orders.

I am really favoring my Ultra Strat in Texas Tea these days; I've fallen for the compound radius Modern D neck with Ultra rolled fingerboard edges.
