I saw the original lineup back in the day......'74? Lonesome Dave had a single Hiwatt stack. Rod Price used a Sunn Model T head with 2 Ampeg V4 4-12 cabs.

Strangest double bill in the history of mankind. I saw Foghat open for the Mahavishnu Orchestra in an old movie theater here in Houston. And yes Hiwatt does sound familiar. :hippy

I was Rod's student for 6 years. He was a super cool guy and as good a teacher as a player.

You have GOT to be kidding me!

Well, somehow I'm not suprised. The Eagles opened for Mahavishnu as well, more than once I think.

Not a lot of bands out there that complement Mahavishnu Orchestra,as an opening act.Guess they just had to go with what was available.

But Foghat?Slow Ride into The Meeting Of The Spirits?

I can imagine what that was like stoned.........

Big Foghat fan here, Slow ride,Stone Blue and the list goes on. In my opinion Rod was a fantastic slide player and really not recognized as much as he should have been, for that matter the whole band. I grew up listening to thier music, they were very much from my time period(guess that dates me) One of my most valued guitars is Rod's white SG he played back in the early 70's.Also have a few albums signed by all the original members.I guess I'm still a big fan. A good friend is a HUGE Foghat fan.

He cried the day he found out Rod died.

"The best dressed man in rock and roll."

Quite the player.Seemed like a nice guy too.

IMHO, Rod never got the credit he deserved as a slide player. Duane was the best and Rod was about a half an inch behind him. Duane had that smooth, round tone and Rod's was a little brighter and edgier. Probably had something to do with the Les Paul vs SG body style ya think???:laugh2:

I never saw them live but they were on all the TV shows of the time, Midnight Special, Don Kirschner's Rock Concert, In Concert etc. Three guitars stand out from that era: Rod's white SG, Steve Miller's custom painted LP Junior and Andy Powell's Flying V.

Man those were the days. I eventually owned one of each and I just bought another white Historic 61 SG Les Paul.

Anyway, I am a Rod Price fan. What a tragic loss to the music world.

Wonkka, I'll see if I can get some pic's of it and get them on my computer, I am extremly "dumb" when it comes to posting pictures. If you know how to post them maybe I can send them to you? When I got the guitar it was pretty much striped and needed some repair, I think it's around a 62 SG, it had a stop tail installed probably when it was refinned in white before Rod bought it, it was only last year I actually verified it really did belong to Rod, I was told it was the only white SG he ever owned. It's kinda funny I really have played the heck out of this guitar and the joke always was"Hey play your Foghat SG" only to find out it really belonged to him. Being a long time Foghat fan I flipped, I still play the heck out of it from time to time with the band but after getting into my 98R8's fat neck it's hard to go back to the slim tappered kind of necks, if you know what I mean. I would love to post some pictures, but I'll need some guidance . I can take some pictures with my phone and send them to an Email address, I'm open to idea's. Pigman

I saw Foghat six or seven times in the 70's and was always impressed with Rod's playing. He was using red and white SGs most of the time, but eventually had that black modified Junior that he used until his death. By the way, I'm friendly with the present Foghat and can say that the replacements Roger Earl now has for Lonesome Dave and Rod are terrific musicians who really do the material justice. Charlie and Brian are nice guys and great players.

Foghat Live II will be out very soon, if not already. :2zone

By the way, at the time of his death, Rod weighed 300 pounds and was in terrible physical shape. The fall downstairs triggered the heart attack, brought on by years neglecting his health. A shame. Such a great player. His later blues CDs were good too.
