• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Aren't all pickup brands the same...?

Duncans, DiMarzios, Fralins, Kinmans, Lawrences, Rolphs, Fenders, Gibsons...... Ever heard anyone say any of them suck, or just, "not that good"??? Browse any review site and everyone who replaced their stock pups with any of the above brands will tell you they rock.

I find guitars, and especially amps, much more diverse when it comes to overall quality, character and price. Some brands recieve lots of praise and almost no critique at all, yet you will find loads of ppl saying "nah, not for me". Also, you can easily find top $$$ brands of exceptional quality and yet hear ppl tell you they "suck". When it comes to pups, all seem to be great and eveyone are satisfied with virtually no complaints at all. Is the pickup market over-saturated?

I'm not going into the reasons for it (this post is already too long), but I could name several. I find it all pretty interesting, nontheless.

Some pickups suck

The sucky-est pickups?
DiMarzio Strat pickups from the '80s.
Fralin Strat pickups are magic.
I'm just learning about what I like in humbuckers now.
