still in London.
Yep .. I believe it’s still in London.. as it was/is the hottest guitar to try and sell..so moving it would’ve been very difficult ..and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s just an ongoing saga, to continue the folklore of “Beano”..

I’m sure one day it’ll surface.. I just hope it’s in our lifetime..

I recently necro posted a DZ thread, in the hopes it would spark some Beano speculation. i am curious where Clapton said publicly he knew it was still in london ?

that will absolutely be the most valuable guitar if it ever can be proven to be the one and is offered for public auction

EC has said he knows where it is, which implies he knows who's got it.
Everyone assumes it's intact and still as it was the day it was stolen. It's just as likely that it isn't and/or has been being played in public all along - could have been broken up for parts and/or resprayed.
Remember, back when it was stolen it was just a used guitar, in a part of the world where they were rare in the first place, and spare parts were nigh on impossible to get.
It's become 'mythical' over the years, because of who it belonged to and because it has (apparently) never been seen again.

assumes it's intact
a very good point.. thinking about the era it was stolen and “if” the person who stole it, knew it was even EC’s guitar in the first place.. I would hazard a guess that whoever sold it .. probably did so to a musician and given he went back to steal the case, he may have stole it to order or to a shop who asked about the case..? so he went back for it?

Maybe whoever bought it, more than likely knew it was stolen and therefore painted the guitar.. which today may have been restored back to a burst or not?..
I personally doubt the guitar would’ve been broken up for parts, given the rarity of LPs in London at the time.. and most probably the vast percentage of LPs in circulation would’ve been in relatively good nick still..

the assumptions are endless tbh..

Other than Bernie Marsden thinking The Beast was maybe Beano..and disregarding JBs claim, has there been other guitars claiming to be Beano?

I reckon Beano would still be ‘as one’ because of the hoopla that was surrounding Clapton at that time. I mean there were people painting ‘Clapton is God’ across town. The thief definitely knew whose guitar it was! Maybe not the provenance of it just yet, but they knew it was ‘His’ guitar……or at least I hope that’s what happened. For all I know it could have a Floyd Rose jammed in it, and cut down to be a double-cut, with DiMarzios under the hood!
