• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

In the 60's the Bee Gees were a quintet, with a guitarist named Vince Melouney. He was the first person I ever heard of who collected Les Pauls. As a 12-13 year old kid, I was just beginning to learn about old LP's. I had a friend who told me he saw the Electric Prunes at a local amusement park. He got to meet the guitarist and found out in conversation, that the guys guitar was a really rare, expensive & discontinued guitar called a Les Paul. Shortly after that, I read a Bee Gees article in a teen mag where they asked the band members what their favorite foods, hobbies and personal interests were. Vince said he collected old Gibson Les Pauls. It was my introduction to the concept of collecting anything more than baseball cards.

That guitar sounds pretty good with the ol' invisible cord and amp setup that so many '60's bands used on TV!

Thanks for posting that link. An old Les Paul sounds good in any musical situation.

That '59 didn't need any amplification; it's all about the wood! In all seriousness, the Bee Gees were a decent band in the late 60's. As long as we don't see a Burst in one of their late 70's DISCO videos!

Thanks for posting that. I had some pics of Vince with the Burst from some of my Hit Parader/Teen mags. I posted about that a year ago and no one seemed to know of Vince -who was only with the Bee Gees a couple of years.

Personally, I prefer Barry's double-guard Deluxe. Always dug that look. :applaude And say what you will about 'em, through every phase of their career, the Bee Gees put out some of the most brilliant pop songs of all time.

According to Wayne's World....Led Zeppelin didn't write songs that everybody loved. They left that to the Bee Gees:laugh2:

I had seen that clip before. Just never stopped to ponder the "burst content".:salude

Well, the Bee Gees have always struck gold.....even the horrible disco stuff was right on time, and if you were gigging anything close to resembling Top 40 back then, you played it.
Nice burst! He probably paid $100 for it.

Don't forget the very fine Ricky 4001. Those guys had very good taste in vintage gear... before it was vintage. :salude Ahhh, I see the guitar and bass have invisible cables but the mic is cabled, where does it lead to? The mystery deepens... :hmm

Speaking of them using good gear... My friend at Rhino Records got me their first 3 albums in the expanded edition form and when you open up the "Horizontal" CD, there's a photo of them on stage with a plexi Marshall backline!
God I loved the 60's!:dude:

I know it is a fashionable to trash the late 70's BeeGees stuff, but sorry guys, some of those songs are great, even if you don't like the musical style.
