A while ago I ordered 6 pcs “CTS "BVT" Burst Taper 10% 550K Shortshaft Pot (CTS-550BVT)” from Crazy Parts in Deutschland. (78 Euro - quite expensive I think).

I used this firm several times before – always with good result, not this time. All the pots measured around 500K, none above 500K, using two different multimeters.

I mailed Crazy Parts two times (Barbara Nowak) and got no response.

So, a little warning if you are considering to buy 500K+ pots – Don’t buy them from Crazy Parts.

The only company I buy pots and wiring from is RS. If you need a high reading 500K pot, contact them

I've purchased from Crazy Parts many times over the past 8 years. They have always provided exemplary service and top quality products. Plus they refund the VAT portion of the cost on foreign orders shipped out. I haven't seen any other EU vendors do that, and I've bought from various EU stores and local manufactureres.

Crazy Parts is a top notch supplier for G/F replacement parts. I'm sure Barbara will follow-up with you to resolve your issue.

Were these the pots you purchased?

The tolerance on a set is listed as 5%, so you could have pots slightly below 500K ohms.

I could not find any 550K ohm pots on their website, only 525K ohms.

I agree – I can’t find the 550K BVT on their website anymore. Maybe Barbara Novak read my mail after all?

I’ve been doing business with them for many years – always with good results.

Not this time tough.

And I don’t like it when my mails (times two) are not responded to.

As pointed out above if a 10% 550K pot is anywhere between 595 - 605K it is within specifications so no grounds for complaint, also be aware that typical budget multimeters may have accuracy levels of around +/- 1% so when measuring a 550K resistance the meter could be showing up to 55K out either side of that.

In any case, despite what internet folklore might suggest, I very much doubt that in the case of a true properly conducted blind listening test anyone would be able to hear any difference whatsoever between a 500K and a 550K pot.

you can bet if they had some 600k’s to sell they’d list that one to actual spec
