Custom Shop NR Firebird question

Hello Gents,

I am looking at getting a 2008 Custom Shop NR Firebird with Firebird pickups. I believe that they are stock.

Would these pickups be the modern Gibson ceramic firebird pickups with like 14k resistance that no one seems to like? Or was there a custom shop version of these?

Also do these have 500k or the 300k pots?

I am ok with replacing the pickups, and will likely look at Lollar, Novak, maybe Antiquities, etc. I actually want to get the mythical "fat Tele" sound if possible, as I will play mostly clean with a touch of hair, using a Deluxe Reverb clone, then use pedals for OD, fuzz, etc. Any suggestions for this? Worst case scenario I could put in some Lollar mini-humbuckers, which I think ought to fit in the same slot correct?

Thanks!

My Gibson minis do a decent fat tele tone. :yah

I can't see why the Lollars wouldn't do the trick.

Personally I've never run across a Firebird mini that I liked. Always thought it a shame that Gibson wouldn't do a Firebird run with standard Gibson minis. :hmm

Jon Gundry/ThroBak makes an excellent mini-hum! Email him about this as I don't think he has them on his website yet. I have a version with the pole screws on my D'Angelico EXL-1 and it sounds perfect!

Klein Firebird set (Doug Kauer wind) is the most vintage correct internally (based on a '63 bird pickup set), and the closest in vintage tone that I've heard. I couldn't imagine
a Firebird pickup sounding better.

Here's my bird with those pickups (and 500k RS pots, and Mallory 160P caps)...

killer playing and tone! those really do sound unique in a very good way! based on that recording the Kleins seem to sound a bit better balanced and fuller than the Lollar firebird recordings I've heard
