• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Actually I think Dusty Rhodes looks an awful lot like Jack Black with blond hair!

I'm guessing Billy figured it was better to look straight in 1971 Texas than to endure Roky Erickson's fate.

You sure they toured together.

I thought his band [The Moving Sidewalks] opened for Hendrix at a few Texas shows. :hmm

You're correct Tom.
Taken literally it's overstated to say "...they toured together."

I doubt Billy was headed in Roky's direction anyway. :ganz

He would have been if he was busted for weed. Hard labor or an insanity defense. Roky picked the latter.

Billy also looked scrawny enough that he could have easily had his ass kicked for being a hippie.

Well, that explains The Rev's early adoption of "The Hat Strategy" anyhow :D

Yea, I think he meant Dusty Hill. :wah I don't think we need anyone getting body slamed on stage.:spabout

Man I can't wait until Sunday. I get to see them again.
Frank, Dusty, Pearly and Billy F. Gibbons closing out the 2+ weeks of the Houston Livestock show and Rodeo in style. Not the best venue acousticly, but it's always nice to hear that slide on pearly!:dude:

Since we are guessing likeness, here Billy is a dead ringer for Clint Howard of Gentle Ben fame and brother of Ron Howard. :couch

My Bro-In-Laws Brother met Billy over at a cheap motel in Houston. Billy told him that they stay at places like that, cuz no one expects them to stay there. After talking awhlile about old ZZ albums Billy gave him a copy of his book, and walked away with three women in tow! Pretty cool story indeed.

Does he even play Pearly in public anymore?

He's played her every time thay have come to the rodeo. He only uses her for slide songs anymore, then the roadie puts her away. He makes a point to say "it's time for a little Pearly Gates" :applaude

Sorry to report there was no Pearly Gates to be seen at Friday's ZZ Top show in Clearwater. It was all the BillyBo except for a Goldtop LP used for slide on a couple of tunes. Great show but no Pearly :wah

Man I hate to hear that. Hopefully he'll have her for Sunday. If not I'm cool with him using a Goldtop. I just really enjoy hearing them play.:applaude

A few years ago I walked into 30th Street Guitars, here in New York, the week that ZZ Top was inducted into the Hall of fame. I remember my jaw hitting the floor as I laid my eyes on Billy sitting there picking on an old semi-acoustic, while an absolutely stunning brunette stood behind him looking bored. He glanced up at me, sunglasses and all, and gave me one of those "ain't this fun" kinda looks. I just stared with the dumbest smile on my face.

Two hours later my singer called freaking out 'cause he had just seen Jimmy Page in Central Park.

It must have been a good day in New York that day.
