THAT! Is a killer beast! I would buy it in a heartbeat.

And for all the new age persona who don't UNDERSTAND.
Calling it a flaw does not mean it is necessarily bad or unhistoric!
UNDERSTANDING the words and the history is a good thang!
Stop bein' hurt...

There was no attempt at an insult.

I tire of fact-changing to fit the mood of some people who need to feel better about themselves or their choices.

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE FLAWS IF YOU LIKE THEM!

I even stated I now LIKE the streaks and deposits because they DO look like older wood did most often.

Maybe I should lie to you then and tell you they selected it in the 50's on purpose and it was considered top drawer back then?

Sheesh!

Big Al stated a fact and I simply backed him up. They WERE considered flaws back then and as such were a less desirable piece of wood.

Simple fact.

You have been on a mission lately. I have no idea why. If you have a problem with me contact me and let's see if we can work it out.

For one I do not have a problem with you I like you !

99.9% you shine the lite of truth .

I find im not feeling self conscious or inferior with my flecks !

Not bending the truth to feel better about my guitars .

IMO both you & AL have slim or any clue how the wood inventory was graded at Gibson between 58 -60 !

Once again i like you don't I always comment how nice your guitars are, I also take the time to read your interesting post's

Thank you for your input I will watch it , Victor

Thanks Renderit, Jalguitarman, ikowpeanuts (lol great screenname)

Like I said, there is really no right answer, it’s an aesthetic choice, I happen to like character lines and less rigid, more organic looking symmetry. Perhaps these types of tops were considered less than ideal back in the day but it seems perception of what consititures a visual “flaw” has changed, at least with regard to guitars. Bursts run a pretty wide aesthetic gamut but I do associate certain characteristics to my idea of a quintessential vintage top and that’s typcially what I go for.

I guess the light was good that day. Here’s another picture that shows the streaks a bit clearer. Apparently I have a type because this LP is quite visually similar to my TH59.

Here's one which was so bad they would not even have built it in the 50's.
Lots of mineral deposits and wonky streaks and mismatching.
I named it Skidmark.
I bought it.
I love it!

But talk about flaws!

When I play it no one notices my eyes are both on one side of my nose!

Ive seen several many flawed tops OVER THE MANY YEARS of looking at photos of 58-60 burst's . IMO Gibson ordered a lot of AAA maple and the guy filling the order decided what was AAA ,

The only claim I make about this guitar, indeed the only claim I can rationally make, is that amongst the enormous number of Historics that I've played, it remains head and shoulders as my favourite. An immense guitar in my humblest of opinions.

Warts n all.

That's the only metric I find useful.

I thought it looked like they ran a 60's muscle car with no positrack down the top. Then the tone left a skidmark somewhere else as well...
