Hey guys, does anybody know what kind of wire Gibson is using in the historic’s? I have a 2013 model and a 2015 model - is this Gavitt wire or something else? I’m thinking of swapping it out for Gavitt wire to maintain stronger capacitance.

Thanks

What do you mean by "stronger capacitance?" Low capacitance is best to maintain clarity and minimize treble attenuation. Seriously, the wire runs are so short in a guitar that there is almost no chance you'd be able to hear any difference between different wire types unless you used the cable Nigel Tufnel's roadie made for him.

Not stronger, I meant lower.

Do you know what Gibson are using?

No, sorry. If you're struggling with a lack of clarity, the wire is the last thing on the checklist.
Ok thanks! No issue with lack of clarity; I’m using VIP pots, Jupiter caps & vintage wire pickups. I’m going to experiment with the Gavitt wire, as this is what Gibson used historically.

Are you sure Gibson used or uses Gavitt? Please, what is the source of this information?

They used it - not recent;y. I think I read it in the PAF book but can’t remember. Also, Dave Stephens had mentioned it in his videos a couple of times.

I was just curious & wanted to ask if anyone knew what type of wire was used in 50s-60s and if anything was different with histories, that’s all.

No need for sarcasm..

match to what's on the pickups you have. 3 or 4 stranded braid?

I’m a bit loopy still from pain med due to dental surgery, apology’s…
I have a spool of 2strand w/ wax impregnated cloth; and a spool of 3strand w/o wax. My R8 has 2strand throughout. 2strand I got from vision guitar and is identical to what’s in my R8.

C'mon now...
Just having a little fun.
You've established that the kind of wire you put inside your guitar makes a difference to you.
