Gibon Les Paul Custom Lite Question - Anyone know what this would be from?

Hi all,

Looking at a used LP Custom Lite (4 knob) at a pretty killer price - but can't make sense of what might be causing this white discoloration on the neck. Anyone have any clue what this might be? Could it have been a different color prior to being painted black?

Seems like a good price, just can't make sense of if that is sign of more serious issue/fretboard separation, etc.
