• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Got my new 2013 R8 Les Paul!

It covers P-90, LP, and Tele range. Wow that is cool! One guitar gig. Awesome.

It's beautiful. . . .but the RULE is to always keep your CR8!

They're very special guitars - we always think we can replicate that sound with other guitars and realize too late that we can't.

Congrats on getting lucky!

After almost two weeks, I'm a bit on the fence about the P-90 statement. I've missed my '62 SG Special for certain songs, mostly slide stuff. Its got this thick, compressed tone that works well for it. This one is much more wide open, more of a Duane tone, and I DO NOT play that clean/precise.

However, it does to that big, bright, "tele on steroids" thing. Very clear, with lots of headroom. My sound guy commented on how bright it was, and usually when he says something it means to change it. So this week I tweaked my amp a little, and rolled back the tone. After the first break he says, "what happened to your Les Paul? It's not as bright as it was last week". After I explained that I figured he wanted me to change it, he said "No, its a good bright, it sounds absolutely huge." If he's happy, then I'm happy. Not really...:hee

On man, that CR8…I still think about it. I'd played so many gigs with that thing, and had run it in to the ground. It was beat, needed another fret job…My band/work situation was pretty tumultuous at the beginning of the year and I needed a spark to start over. It had to go, it's a long story, but it was more of a cleansing thing which I almost immediately regretted.

This one feels a lot like the CR8, which my '05 didn't at all. the neck shape is pretty close, and the sound is pretty close. The CR8, however, had this awesome honking lower mid thing with the tone rolled back that the new one does not. Not as airy sounding. The new one has a far superior neck pickup tone, Fat, clear, no mud at all.

Here's the old, old lady. I miss you!

I have a Sunrise Teaburst 2013 R8 "plaintop" too. It is a wonderful guitar, as is. I like the Cherry burst on yours. Well done, but you can never bench P90's.

True! The SG Special is back in the mix as my slide/utility guitar.

I really do love this thing, though. It's a very natural feeling guitar for me. Everything is just right, I don't have to think about anything other than playing.
