Help! Strange noise out of my R9

Need some help. When I rub my finger across the g string of my R9 acoustically it creates a weird high pitched overtone. Doesn't do it on my strat, Tele. My 135 also does this. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Make sure the wire retainer on the bridge is fully seated. Unless it's wireless of course.

Yes changed strings and all the usual tweaks. It's mostly when I rub across the 5th to 7th fret area. (Again not fretted of course). Just with my left hand alone it makes this strange harmonic overtone like dragging a bow with rosin across a string . This is a really strange thing. It's coming through my amp so it's really problematic.

Just make it work for your style. If you are lucky others will want to know how you do it. If you ever got famous people would start threads here trying to get that sound.

If it happens with 2 different guitars it might be something in the amp. It does not like Gibsons? (sorry, kidding) Maybe tighten the screw on the G saddle just a bit - not to move saddle, just to stop the screw moving/vibrating? How loud amp has to be in order to have this happening?

Thanks guys for the input. This happens unplugged.
It's a wierd overtone that happens acoustically but does come through the amp when plugged in.
Have any of you guys ever had anything like this happen?

Not to be an ass..why does it matter if you don't hear it through the amp. It is an "electric" guitar

I think I know what the issue is. The G string is ringing behind the nut. I had this problem on an Eric Johnson Strat that lacked the string tree to give the G that extra downward pressure. It can also happen on a Gibson and will mean having your tech file the G string's slot.

I also heard it amplified whenever I played a chord that included an open G. Annoyed the hell out of me.

Sorry, missed that, thought he said he couldn't hear it through the amp.

I'd suspect amp preamp tubes then if on more than one guitar.

how can it be a tube if it happens when the guitar is unplugged? something with the saddles or nut is my guess, as others have already stated.

Thanks guys for all your help. It's really puzzled me. Here's a one last description of what's going on and I'll leave you guys alone. If you can imagine the overtone you get when you wet your finger and rub it around the edge of a glass. The effect you get is almost identical to what's going on with my guitar. It's not my fingers because I can immediately pick up my strat and Tele and it will not do the same thing. Only on my Paul( even with new strings or old).

If you hit a first position G chord and then immediately dampen the strings with your right hand, do you still hear that note ringing? If so, it's your nut. You can also test it by sliding a little foam under the G string at the head stock and see if that sound goes away.

Yea I tried muting the strings behind the nut and still it does. I've got a video but I can't figure how to load it.
