THIS IS THE 25th ANNIVERSARY YEAR FOR THE LES PAUL FORUM! PLEASE CELEBRATE WITH US AND SUPPORT US WITH A DONATION TO KEEP US GOING!
We've made a large financial investment to convert the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and recently moved to a new hosting platform. We also have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
Please support our Les Paul Forum Sponsors with your business - Gary's Classic Guitars, Wildwood Guitars, Chicago Music Exchange, Reverb.com, Throbak.com and True Vintage Guitar. From personal experience doing business with all of them, they are first class organizations. Thank you!
Hey Lily, to get that sound, I actually used a combination of sounds... A H&K Rotosphere for the "leslie", and a CAE Super Tremolo to change it enough so that it didn't "collide" with the leslie the B3 was using.. Also, that is a stereo signal from the H&K... I've grown use to using that in that manner in some situations.. It is, but it's really not, the "leslie" sound...
I said where you goin with that.... sorry couldn't resist. Dude, is that a clip off your disc that Lily put up? If so, how can I get a copy of your CD? Just that little snippet is killer, bro.
Joe, the Rotosphere/Tremolo combination sounds cool. I can see why you couldn't use a full on Leslie with the B3 in the mix ...it would get pretty trippy and washed out sounding...
I've been using the tremolo on the Bandmaster with the Leslie setup too. Man, you dial it in just right and it sounds sooooo good...
Thanks CC for the kind words.. Miracle did a great job mastering the project..
Lily, the CAE Tremolo I use is a 2 speed.. I set one fast, and I set one slow... (both to my "favorite" tempo's). Its really cool to blend it like,, slow leslie so you get the big chorale sweep, and add fast tremolo, or vice versa.. But, alot of times I'll use just the leslie, or just the tremolo too.. It adds so much more of a dimension to your sound.. I never really liked "chorus" pedals, but by blending the two sounds together, I kinda made my own.
Want to get some wild sounds,, add delay to the blend too.. you get some crazy cool sounds...
I used to have a "fast" and "slow" on the Leslie, but the slow was TOO slow for use with a guitar, you couldn't really hear the Leslie effect, so it wasn't needed. Sounds like we're going for the same sounds though.
Actually, I do use some delay with the Leslie sometimes - it can be cool as long as it's subtle...plus my pedal crapped out already - so all I have right now is a chorus pedal. I also liked to add a little crunchy distortion sometimes when I was using the Boogie head with it - it REALLY gave you this huge, more authentic B3 sound.... I think I'll use the Tremolo alot more though .
Hey Joe, no need to thank me bro. You guys rock. Damn, I would kill to have your tone, let alone your chops.
That free MP.3 on your website, 'High Price of the Blues', is that an ABB cover? It deffo had an ABB vibe to me (in my limited knowledge/experience). I'm not a huge ABB fan, but I do really dig some of their stuff.
Dude, I'm deffo gonna snag a couple copies of your disc. I got a couple of hardcore bloozehound bud's who'll love gettin that for Christmas.
Thanks Carl,, it's a big compliment to have someone say that High Price sorta sounds like ABB... I wrote the tune, really quick one night for a filler, as for the tune, and the band, we sound the way we do, because of the guys I get to play with night after night.. Great people, great musicians... I defer to them...
We recorded this absolutely live, all in one night, 11 cuts, NO Overdubs... What you see is what you get.. Thanks again Carl, having input from guys like you makes all this worth it..
