One day millennials will pay big bucks for an old Tesla:) I will say however that I am guilty. In the past 5 years I have bought a few expensive custom shop guitars. Paying all that money for my R9 really freaked me out but I got used to it. What have I got left? 15 years maybe before they put me in a home, or worse. If you are playing them everyday then I say go for it. 15 years from now some kid will get a great deal on a great used guitar because your family will sell it all off cheap after you kick the bucket.
When guys hit middle age, they buy stuff they lusted after as a teenager.
I don't think any teenagers are lusting after a Team a.

Here's a perfect example
Barrett Jackson Auto Auction in Scottsdale yesterday. Sammy Hagar put up his Ferrari to auction. He said he worked with Ferrari and custom requested every component of that vehicle. Eleven hundred miles on it. He said he can't drive it. It's too powerful. He gets out of it and he's shaking. He wants it to go to someone who will appreciate it. It sold for 4.2 million.

He ordered a car that belongs on a track. He gets in, steps on the gas, and reality hits right there. He realized the car is too much for him.

Sounds like the same situation with expensive amps.

..and this where the used market is such a goldmine.. wannabe “Slash’s” dump very decent expensive gear because after 5 years of trying to play the intro to “sweet child of mine” and the wife/gf smirking at them.. they dump it all.. and we swoop in.. case in point.. my recent purchase 57 TH GT TM.. which was bought for used vos money.. 😉

Silver linings n all that ..

Bonjour.

I gig with my "boutique" amps. And my R9. And my Duesenberg. Because they are superior tools. I'm a player, not a collector. And I want the best tools I can afford (almost afford? lol). If I had the Victory amp in question I would gig with it too. I offended some people in a Duesenberg FB group because I thought the neck P90 and the weird wiring in my Duesenberg was crap and put in a humbucker and had the guitar re-wired to traditional spec. It's a tool, not a sacred object, I don't care what the manufacturer intended. It works better for me now. I've never been able to understand the mindset that these instruments are art to be hung on a wall and admired, or shown off as status symbols. If they're not tools and treated as such then maybe the owner isn't a musician?

💯

And my point is that ALL musicians should be able to afford and play the best equipment.. as they are TOOLS of the trade.. pricing out working musicians to cater for the yacht club bragging brigade is loathsome and a insult to musicians.. who these products are made for..

I weep for all those top end amps and guitars that are only brandished on weekends to impress the soulless dentist associates.

Cool can not be bought.. only earned.

The first time I dimed my two Custom 100 heads (a Hiwatt and a Reeves) through two full stacks (the bottom cab of one was a Friedman 2x12+2×15) , and then hit that with a few different heavy fuzz and high gain pedals I can tell you I wasn't shaking. I had a shit eating grin on my face that I still get thinking of the sound.

I had a similar experience diming my Hiwatt DR103 and Matamp GT150. Hurts so good.

I would say they can afford some of the best equipment ever made, but that adjective is highly subjective.

Tbt while my Reeves Custom 100 was not cheap, neither was it crazy expensive. It was $2500 made to order from a highly esteemed builder for what is one of the best built, most meticulously hand wired, and imo best sounding amps you will find at any price. They don't come up used often, but when they do can be found for around $2000.

Rivera, Mesa/Boogie, Dr Z, Fender, Reeves, Hiwatt, Hi-Tone, Marshall, Science, Marsh, Carr, tbt even Victory for certain models, and others all make insanely high quality gear at prices not out of reach for someone willing to work and save a bit for a peice of gear that can last them their lifetime and sound amazing doing so.

While looking for something else, I inadvertently stumbled across some shockingly high dollar 80s BMX bike parts.
Now...being a paunchy, balding old dude driving a GTO is one thing, but....
The Raleigh Chopper is very much a thing here in the UK.. and bmx’s and long board skateboards pfft.

On a related note that perfectly bridges irony and innuendo I find that the fatter I get the more riding a moped appeals to me.

I can attest to this. And, before you know it you need a new one. Guitars amps get more cool the older they get.

Did I just say this sexist thing out loud?

They are cute & seem harmless. But they are noisy, incredibly expensive to keep, & untrainable.

On the pro-woman side of the truth Kangaroos in general punch, kick, and bite much harder, and their physical claws are much longer and sharper. It's those mental and emotional claws that dig into your head and heart where most women leave a partner with scars.

That said I've looked like I tangled with a Tiger a few times. Some of them were quite fun experiences, and others not so much.

Otoh I am sure somewhere out there is a pic of a Kangaroo and a man made into the same viral meme, and it too is correct as is my additional refinement
