• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I'm using an MXR Phase 90 I modded. I cut out the resistor mentioned in an earlier thread. Sounds good now but it's too moisy. So...now I wanna replace it with a new Phase Shifter.

I'm not looking for recommendations on vintage stuff. I'm really not interested in vintage. What I'm interested in is something along the quality of a Fulltone pedal.

True Bypass

Sturdy

Quiet - No button pop and no residual noise when engaged but not playing

Simple - 1 or 2 knobs

Nice sweep range

What are you guys using? What's good? What's better? What's the best? How much can I expect to pay?

I've used an Electro Harmonix Small Stone phase shifter for 20 years. I've had a bunch of them in that time, from a couple of vintage 1970s models to a 1990s Russian-made model, to the new 70s reissue one.

To my ear, they all sound identical, and it's my ideal phase tone. I prefer the phased tone of Gary Rossington's LP on Tuesday's Gone, and the Small Stone nails it.

Well, till we got to the "two knobs" part I was going to recommend the Infinitphase-killer piece of gear, like a Zvex Ooh-wah and phaser all rolled into one, but it has like 20 knobs so that's out. There's a lot of good phasers out there, but I'm not aware of any modern ones I really like. The Small Stone is cheap and you can do a true bypass mod easily, the Boss PH2r is their best effort. The 9 series Ibanez is cool. I don't think any of the big boutique guys are building a phaser right now...
