Just made a deal for my second SG and first vintage SG. I'm on the hunt and hoarding all of my cash for a vintage PAF SG but in the mean time I traded my R7 for this '63 Special. Never thought I'd own a Special but I'm actually really excited for my first "golden era" Gibson, first P90 guitar, and first wraptail guitar. My main guitar is a Dickey Betts SG so I think the two will complement each other nicely and both feel comfortable to me, unlike switching from my SG to a Les Paul.

The guitar is in great cosmetic shape with pretty little checking or fading and no breaks or repairs aside from minor overspray where the original tuner holes were filled after Grovers were added, but the serial is clearly visible. The P90s are original and 8.3k each. The bridge is a Badass bridge, though I ordered a MojoAxe compensated lightning bar for it. The pots are all new CTS pots but the caps, jack, and switch are all original. It comes with the original roller bar Maestro vibrato like what came on old Epiphones that I might put back on without the arm and still wrap the strings around the wraparound just for looks and balance. The seller also included the original case in good condition along with a new SKB.

I should have it by Monday or Tuesday and will give a sound report then. The seller said it's pretty mellow and doesn't get ice-picky which is good for me since I really am a humbucker guy. Here's some bad pics. I'll also take some nice ones when I get it.

Congrats, I love SG Specials, I have the Historic version, and mine has the MOJOAXE wraptail which really made a difference for intonation, it's not perfect, but it's very close.

Well done - great players! If it were mine, I'd leave that Maestro off and just use the MojoAxe bridge for maximum tone!

I expect better pictures immediately! Try some more light. Inside, outside, side-by-side shots. Measurements, sound bytes, moving pictures and scratch and sniff samples. DNA results are needed so we can track possible siblings. Get moovin' bucko!

Excellent, congrats.

I also would just use the Mojo Axe bridge and wrap around that, but personal preference. I had a 65 SG Special up until this year, great guitars, you will love it. Especially if your first vintage P90 guitar, they always sound great.

Enjoy and I look forward to better pics soon !

I plan to wrap it around the MojoAxe and just leave the Maestro without the arm on it like this.
