According to 'Crazy Fingers', a new Jeff Beck biography by Annette Carson, JB used Colorsound distortion devices in the 60s - 70s. So I hooked up my:

Les Paul -> Italian Crybaby -> Line 6 DM4 'Colorsound overdriver' patch -> DL4 slap delay -> Marshall Super Lead half stack.

What resulted was a pretty good approximation of JB's sound from his first solo album 'Truth', the song 'I Ain't Superstitious' in particular. Do the actual Colorsound pedals sound this good?

hey, didn't I see this post on the FDP?
Anyway, get an LP with some good PAF clones(modded antiquities, Rolphes, Holmes...) a cranked Marshall, and some time to sit down and listen to the Truth album, and you'll get in the ballpark.

The Les Paul / Marshall plexi sound is a given; I was referring to the more effected sounds like, say, 'Shapes Of Things' and 'Beck's Bolero'. I read that JB used more pedals for 'Truth' and relied solely on amp distortion (and a Strat) for his following album, 'Beck-Ola'.

referring back to your original question, the Colorsound overdriver sounds good, I've got one of those, but Jeff Beck used a Sola Sound tonebender in the 60s, which is more of a fuzz tone. Also, on Shapes of Things he's using a pedal steel for the slidey parts.
