• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Jimmy Vivino, last night....

I'm not so sure this thing is going to be the "dud" that most people are predicting. I guess time will tell.

I'm not to crazy about the treatment the back's got, but yeah...you might be right.

If they'd use some super wide tiger stripe maple veneer on the back, that would make a HUGE difference in my opinion of it.

Great idea! Wood veneer would be definitely better than that horrible tiger-stripe stencil IMO.

Not trying to be cynical, but Gibson probably paid Jimmy to play that guitar on national TV. Just like I am sure they pay the Jonas Brothers to use a Dark Fire and other Gibsons.

BTW, as an aside, I own a guitar that Jimmy Vivino used to own. It is a vintage National Triolian from 1930. Used to be owned by John Sabastian of the Lovin' Spoonful. John gave the guitar to Jimmy (they play in a band together on the side). A few years ago, Jimmy was cleaning out his collection and sold several guitars to Rudy's guitar shop in Manhattan. I bought the National from Rudy's. Great guitar!

Well, as much as we all obsess about gear at the LPF, deep down everybody knows...it's the PLAYER, not the guitar.

Jimmy V. is the guitar nerd's best friend....a different (very cool) guitar just about every night! Too bad we get to hear so little of the band....

I highly doubt that they paid him to play it but I would bet that they loaned it to him for personal use. Companies don't really pay anyone anymore but they do supply butt-loads of guitars to artists.

There's a pic on Jimmy's website where he's holding an SG Custom and the caption says that Gibson gave him the guitar as a gift. So i wouldn't be surprised if they gave him lots of cool guitars since he's got such a high profile gig. Paying him to play it, ahhh, probably not unless it's a Gibson event or trade show performaance or product demo.
But you know, there is such a thing as 'product placement' in movies, prolly in TV land too...

Not that it matters, he's getting paid pretty well anyhow. The guy's got a super high profile gig and always has cool vintage and unique guitars. I like that about him! That plus he's a great player!

BTW-I'm sorta liking the Dusk Tiger, certainly won't run out and buy one, but secondhand (and cheap) in a pwan shop a few years down the line, I could see myself with another weird guitar.

My wife and I used to play a game to try to guess what guitar Jimmy would be playing before the show aired. One night I fell asleep and missed it but my wife said he was playing a "White SG". I though she must be mistaken, it was probably a white Tele or something.
Several months later I bought a White SG from Lark Street, and when she saw it she said "That was the guitar Jimmy was playing". Still thinking it was a coincedence, I posted the guitar here on The LPF and several members said it looked like the one he had. I called Lark St. and they said he brought it in, and they have sold several of his guitars.

No biggie, but kinda cool to me anyway.

I'm a big Jimmy V. fan too.
I'm happy to hear that he got the bandleader job for the new 'Conan' show on TBS, airing in November.
I have a Murphy aged R7 coming that belonged to Jimmy. I got it from LarkStreet.

I'm stoked!
