the one thing I am not clear about is why a guitar such as a 57 black beauty reissue needs to be used to play highly distorted metal riffs ?

(some blues riffs thru a tweed deluxe and no effect pedals would much more clearly demonstrate the guitars tone )

Well, everyone has his preference of music. GuitarjonSDS clearly likes metal and while I agree there's more to a guitar than heavy distortion, but there's plenty of video's taking care of that.

I don't think it's a '57 reissue. It's a "modern" LP Custom (for lack of a better term). That 490R/498T set loosely caters to heavier music so I can understand Jon's angle.

Oh yeah it's a very versatile guitar. These are just my main styles but I'm looking forward to exploring what else this guitar is capable of. I think my 60s Standard will inspire me more to play some mid gain crunch stuff though... Fwiw, I did play some nice edge of breakup clean tones in the video so it's not alllllll heavy rock. :)

Dude! Is all that gear behind you yours, or are you sitting in the stock room of a Guitar Center????

Yeah I got a lot of amps. That's kinda my thing. It got out of hand for sure haha! But it's fair to say I'm a collector. I think I have around 48 now...

Got my 60s standard today. Will post some more thoughts and pics once I've played it some more. I'm not sold on the burstbucker 61s (yet). They seem a little lacking in the low end so I might swap at least the bridge pickup out for something with a little bit more beef. Any recommendations for pickups that are well suited for a Les Paul, still remaining that 'classic' sound but with more low end beef and perhaps a slightly more modern tone?

Hi all,

New member. Long time LP owner/lover. Have been buying guitars for 25 years, but have never ordered new from the Gibson Custom Shop. Also debating pulling the trigger on a brand new Custom (ebony). Not a reissue, just the Custom - those pickups are just perfect for me.

Anyone purchase anything from the CS in 2023? Anything to be wary of? I know this thread isn't that old, but curious if anyone has any experience as of late.

Thank you!
