Id love to hear what the other California members think about the upcoming Costa Mesa Guitar show?
Think there will still be a turnout or do people have other things on their minds at the moment?

Anyone still going to the show?

I was talking to a luthier who was still sending stuff to NAMM. Probably depends on a lot of factors

Here's another perspective. About 12,000 homes were lost....but there are approaching 4,000,000 people in just the city of Los Angeles. When you look at LA County, it's over 9.6M. When you add Orange County in, it's another 3.1M. So that's 12.7M before you even consider the counties of San Diego, Riverside, Ventura, Santa Barbara or San Bernardino . Granted you won't pull as many from the other counties...but...

I do not want to belittle the damage done, but 12,000 out of well over 13M is very tiny percentage. I know more than 12,000 people were affected and lives have been overturned. Probably more like 20-30,000. But still...guitar freaks are still "guitar freak".

Just another perspective...

This is a good illustration of perspective. The more the world goes crazy, the less important cool vintage guitars will become to most people, even guitar players, imo. And I own a few.

Just like a lot of people don’t know who the Beatles were, the world is changing, along with this forum, as has-been discussed here in a recent thread.

I was at the NAMM Show on Thursday and Friday and had planned on going to the guitar show in Costa Mesa on Saturday. All the hype about Gibson [and Fender] returning to NAMM was true- they were there BUT the only people allowed in were for "business meetings". This was also the case with several other large exhibitors. So on Saturday I headed for Costa Mesa and upon arriving saw that parking was $12, combined with $25 to get into the show is $37 and since I had already thrown away too much money on NAMM , enough is enough- I turned around and drove home. There was a time, not that long ago, when a NAMM attendee could get a directory (8.5 x 11 and thick) of who was there and where, a compact directory that folded to about the size of a road map, a decent badge holder, and more. Now, the admission price is triple what it used to be and there's no more directories of any kind- you have to use their App which contains a directory- a real pain in the ass. There were directories posted in a few locations- unacceptable! People were taking pictures of these directories. Except for the covid year I've been to every show since 2004 but I think I'm done now.
