Man, I'm sittin here, listening to Mountain Climbing. Man, this s**t is kickin my ass. 'Never in My Life'? 'Boys in the Band'? Whew! B-A-D!

I know Leslie is always associated w/the LP Junior/Special. Is that all he's using on that album? What amp/s was he using?

I can nail the tone on Mississippi Queen w/my TCM Royal (mahogany, semi-hollow, P90s) & my 'Boogie Rocket 440, tho it don't sound too shabby w/my Explorer thru the Recto/1960A :dude

His tone on the heavy stuff is just killin me. Crunchy, chewy, FAT rhythm tones & his leads are greazy & snarling. Gotta love it.

I'm thinking he was using old Sunn amps on that stuff. If memory serves me correct, they were the same amps Jimi used when he briefly used Sunns. I remember LW used Stramp amps for a while, too.

How about that solo on Theme from an Imaginary Western? Its still one of my favorite guitar solos ever. For the times, it was incredible.

They came and played at my high school (Mamaroneck) one evening and they were great. I think if Leslie had been "prettier" he would have been right up there with Clapton and the other hot guitarists of the day. Felix Pappalardi has an incredible voice. They were a great band.

Oh yes, Theme

That song is a guitar lesson. One of the finest examples of melodic story telling ever done. I learned alot from that song and still use it today as reality check. Gillmore has a similar style of what I call story telling solos, lots of pauses and space with emotion. The Smoke on the Water solo is another example. The list goes on.
Oops, almost forgot. 'Cause we ended as lovers (Beck) and Little Wing (Jimi). O.K. I'll stop.:)spin

I read an interview with Craig Chaquico (sp) from J. Starship. He said that when he recorded "Jane", he wanted a "Huge sound like Leslie West on 'Mississippi Queen'"...he used a '57 Goldtop though a Boogie Mark II or III. I forgot the other details.

During that time between Climbing and Nantucket Sleighride albums, both Felix and Leslie were using mutliple modded Sunn 200s stacks live. I saw a picture of them in a recording studio and it looked as though Leslie might of been plugged into a blkfc Deluxe Rev, but who knows. It almost doesn't matter with him anyway, he always sounds like that.
