• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I love the Vintage 30's
i have some cabs from around 74 or 75. actually have the head too its the master volume one. anyhoos the cabs have a small tag on the back that say '120 watts' these are my hands down favorite marshal speakers, i,m wondering if these speakers are what the vintage 30's are modeled after? just killer midrange crunch

Sounds like they sure can be as it's that delicious mid range crunch that I love so much as it's so thick and pairs so well with my Les Paul's . First time I played thru Vintage 30's was back in 1992 thru a Mesa Dual rectifier combo loaded with a pair of Vintage 30's and I didn't know much except how good they sounded and I did like the Dual Rectifier combo as well .

That's the beauty of making music that it involves our ears and no 2 people are alike and ditto for our ears
I actually prefer the sound of the G12T-75s over the "Vintage 30s" in these amps. I'm well aware I'm in the minority.
I can agree here too. Forums generally tend to lose objectivity and talk about good and bad not acknowledging the difference between objectivity and subjectivity. It is easy to see this mix-up when it comes to color ("that color sucks"), but far too often opinions/likes/dislikes are stated as facts when they are not. I've heard some say there is nothing wrong with that, everything said is an opinion and should be take that way. I totally disagree. I think people should communicate more responsibly and accurately.

You likely have original 30w speakers there. They sometimes have black or cream colored plastic covers (ala greenbacks). I like these old 70s 30w speakers a lot. I believe the Heritage 30w reissue is a reissue of these, whereas the "Vintage 30" is in actuality a 70w speaker. To my ears, these speakers compliment the Jubilees quite well. I played my old Jubilees mainly through a '70s 4x12 loaded with the "blackback" 30w speakers and that was my sound.

I have one of these heads...black tolex, and have been running it thru a cab with 20w G12M Greenbacks and it sounds amazing! Picked it up off of reverb.com for a decent price and am absolutely loving it. Marshall did a fine job on this rig.

if memory serves i think they are creamback, they are perfect for me. i also have pre rola cabs and newer cabs i a/b ed them all and there (for me) was no comparison. the pre rola greenbacks do have a nice searing treble aspect when you play lead up high on the neck.
when i start getting loud again i may run the 2 cabs together.
i used to run a 50 watt jcm 800 years ago through one of my 120 watt cabs and man it was good.
ironically i ran our virtuoso bass player (who would show up with a hundred dollar borrowed bass and no amp) into the 100 watt marshall master volume head into a couple music man 4/12 cabs and an old as dirt cerwin vega 12/18 folded horn cab and it was so glorius! at first he said 'man this is a guitar amp?' then partway through the gig i could see him glancing back at the rig, i dont think he could believe how full and good it sounded. marshall saves the day!

Those 30W speakers came/come in a 55Hz "bass" version and 75Hz "guitar" version IIRC. Not sure I really know myself the difference in sound as I never A:B'd them. I think mine were 55Hz actually. Sounded good to me under the Jubilee.

the jubilee has to be one of marshalls best amps.
i got mine before some recognized artists really put them in the spotlight. (i think one comes to mind right away... or 2 i should say). around the early 2000's
my first one was a half stack out of a nice home in a middle class neighborhood $750. i was stoked, when i got it home and pegged it i knew i was onto something good.
second one was just the head it sat in the pawnshop forever for $550 till they dropped the price and i made an offer and walked out with it for $350!
i live in a relatively small town and had to finally snag a cab off of feebay for it.$700 bucks. it came from back east and interestingly it was a decent price to truck it strapped onto a 4ft pallet with reddaway trucking! i went to their loading dock to get it. it just had a strap over it. the dude says 'enjoy your cabinet' lol
i havent ran the jubes through my 120 watt cabs yet, after my move i will!
i know they re issued the jubilee however a comparison i heard on line the original was noticeably better. at least to me

I always liked playing the clean channel dimed (no clip), just tweaking the tone stack a little, then using only the guitar's volume and tone knobs. Similar to how one might play through a plexi I suppose. Sure covers a lot of ground. Nothing more needed for me.

If I'm not mistaken, that "Vintage" speaker is actually a 70W speaker.

This is the 30W reissue speaker I referenced:
