Hi all, as you've probably heard, Max Baranet, builder of Slash's famous "Hunter Burst", passed away in March of this year. His family has taken over management of his remaining guitar inventory and has set up a web site where you can learn about his history and view many of his famous guitars at www.MaxGuitars.com. We greatly appreciate all the support from fans on this forum over the years and hope to hear from you in the weeks and months to come. Feel free to get in touch at info@maxguitars.com if you need anything.

Best,
Dick (Max's nephew)

I understand that Max and his work have legendary status and for good reason likely because Max was one of the earliest luthiers to make it a point to produce Gibson solid body replicas that were worthy of original instruments and possibly even better. That is IMO certainly a legacy to be proud of no matter of any differing opinion. I never had a Max replica in my hands but I know his works are revered around the globe and I have no doubt for very good reason. I'm confident the diligence of Max and his work actually furthered the Gibson brand and most likely pushed Gibson to eventually go the route of producing their own line of Gibson reissues.
Thank you for posting Dick and RIP Max ......

There are multiple views of Max’s work on here, and I thought hard about saying nothing, but celebrating outright fakes and talking of “inventory” is in incredibly poor taste which, I submit, is appropriate to the individual in question.

If this blatant advertising of Fake guitars is allowed to stand here, any position of probity that the LPF claims to stand on will be gone.

Has it really descended to these depths, hawking Fakes around in the Vintage section of the Les Paul Forum?

I am decidedly unimpressed.

Point taken on the pub, didn't see that at first!

I am no vintage expert, and appreciate the above views on the matter, too.

Even thought it's a divisive legacy, I think we need understand that demarcation in order to keep the full view of history in perspective. Brings to mind the fate of the Salvator Mundi as illustrated The Lost Leonardo, or the tale of Van Meegeren as depicted in The Last Vermeer.

Maybe @MikeSlub can address...?
